Wise man reading tea leaves say: Orsini has coach.
Many wise men on board have said:
It is incredibly quiet around the hilltop. Deathly quiet. This man Orsini has his guy. A handshake deal has been done with general parameters through either an agent or someone close to the future coach. The Future coach whether employed or not employed can't be contacted directly. Thus if it gets out (which mafioso Orsini is not letting get out) said future coach can deny he has been contacted.
If the said coach is currently employed, there are obvious reasons it can't be revealed as it could query the deal. And if the coach is not currently a coach a la Bowden, it is of course done to respect Bennett.
After the games Saturday, Sunday will be used to work out the technicalities, when it will be announced, payoffs, meeting with team that the coach is leaving etc. Then announced Monday or Tuesday.
I've never worked on an executive coach hiring, but I have been involved in hiring executives working with someone else at a fairly high level. The secrecy most always means two things: The job is filled. Or the job is 90% filled and a leak could screw things up.
I wouldn't be surprised if Orsini told Kate yesterday, "You cannot say a word, but I have my coach and you'll be the first to know and will have your scoop. Hence the silence from the DMN.
Lastly, the Texas OC or DC or Krag etc. were contacted by the search firm early in the process simply as a backup plan. It also provided some smoke screens to keep people off the scent.
And the search firm is often kept in the dark about what's happening as well.
My two cents for whatever its worth.

Now you made several pretty strong assertions as if you know them for a fact-or are you pulling them out of your [deleted]?

It is only my read on things based on what I have seen from Orsini in the past and my experience in executive searches. Nothing more. I just believe, people have a difficult time keeping quiet when they don't know what is going on. This board of great fans including myself are living proof we can't keep talking about it. Again, there is nothing coming out of Orsini's office and nothing out of the DMN.
I guess at this point, I think the coach will be Terry Bowden. If Orsini truly has his coach and is confident about it, Bowden has the least initial complications (no current players, no remaining games etc.) It would be no big deal for an assistant coach, but I can't see Orsini doing that.
Another thought: I keep coming back to Todd Dodge. I think he probably has zero chance to be hired (not offered-I do think we could get him). However, I like others have expressed, could see him do great things at NTSU. If they have any kind of defense at all next year they will be in contention for a bowl. At SMU, he would have more advantages and probably be very successful. We're gonna be sick if UNT turns into a powerhouse of the level of a TCU.

I think its pretty obvious he has the guy but out of respect for PB he won't announce it til PB has officially left the building. As bad of a coach as he was, he was too nice of a guy to just rub it in like that. I cannot wait til it's announced. Then we can start the hype for next season.

I have oft accused Kate Papadapoulous of being lazy, but even I have to wonder why she has written so little on the coaching search.

i have friends on the Daily Campus Ed. Staff and they said he refuses to talk to anyone until after Christmas. makes me think he has a rule like that with any media who calls his office (probably not as strict though)

Very true, but Katie can talk to whoever she wants. Evidence: she knew about the Louisville Press Conference 5 minutes after it was scheduled. Why? Because the Louisville paper called her. I highly doubt that no agent or other newspaper outlet has called her. Yet, she hasn't said a damn thing. Why?

Probably because there is nothing to say. And besides she has no loyalties to anyone - Orsini or anyone else - but the story.
You all want to believe so much that Orsini is some big puppet master and the finer details of Urban Meyer's new SMU contract are being finalized that everything is a big conspiracy with even the likes of the Dallas Morning News in cahoots. What will the excuse be on Tuesday when no new coach is announced and you all realize the even Kragthorpe would not come here?
All Austin reports are that Fran is coming our way...
.................He would be better then Kragthorpe and Greg Davis but that is about it. Another coach who lost some of his best coaches and has found it a difficult job replacing them. If he comes here, Fran will find beating his former DC Patterson will not be easy. Patterson is the better coach.
