If you were calling the very first offensive play of 2003 for the SMU Mustangs against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, what would you call?

Kincaid, sweep right. Run behind Sterling Harris and put pressure on Techs new defenders. Gotta keep the ball away from Techs offense too.

Bartel then looks left to find Cardwell streaking down the left side line for the quick six. Bartel puts up LaTech perfomance and the Mustangs win a squeaker 34 - 27.

We know Bennett will run the standard opening straight ahead dive play to settle down the team and play good basics. So would I.

I vote for the KK play-action bomb to Cunningham. TT for sure are prepping for the run after last year's run, run, and run some more game. This would set the RR on their heels and give them a sense of panic, like Navy did to us last year. Perhaps, they'll try to answer too quickly and Jonas gets an early pick for a TD. And maybe cows fly.

run to the strong side (right) until TTech shows they can stop the run. Of course, if they put 8 in the box from the get go, Bartel has to be able to audible. Look for Tech to show Bartel that look (8 in the box) and then back off to try to confuse him.

The key to competing in this game will be just what it was last year...control the clock...and that means run, run, run. When Tech is forced to line up to stop the run, hopefully Bartel/Comet/Rushbrook will be the difference in being able to keep the defense honest. Last year Tech realized they did not have to fear our throwing the ball.
