Barry Switzer on the Radio discusses SMU job

I just heard Switzer & Tony Casillas discussing our coaching situation on the radio.
Barry pointed out that just because you are paying 2 mill doesn't guarantee wins. Pointed out the fact that Charlie Weatherbie @ UL Monroe defeated UA (Saban) & Weatherbie is one of the lowest paid coaches in the US. Same about Jerry Moore & App State defeating Mich.
As a side note, did you know that UL Monroe also defeated the Pony Killer, Ark State 30-13 this year & lost to Texas A&M 54-14 (coached by Fran).
Casillas pointed out how difficult of a job it is going to be for any coach because of our admission policies.
Interesting comments. Agreeing with Switzer can be scary.

Also, forgot to mention that the feeling was that Jones wants to stay in Hawaii & is using us to get more $ & improvements for their program.
Nothing new, but I think this is what the national view of things is as well.
We are going to be in good shape if we hire any of the names being mentioned lately. Let's just get it done & move on down the road.

That is all true, of course. However, the point of the $2 mil is to lure a proven head coach rather than go the coordinator route again or pull someone from East Tennessee St. (or wherever the hell MC was from). It also is a statement of SMU's commitment to changing their attitude about the football program.

I say we give the $10mil to Barry for 3 years. What he could do for our marketing and recruiting in those 3 years might get us out of this hellhole.

How much of that $10MM would be dedicated to bail money for firearms-in-the-airport violations?

And he could bring pristine character back to the program.

I think the biggest thing to come out of the interview was that they were actually talking about SMU football.

Didn't say anything about pristine character. We look to Austin for that sort of glistening model. Oop, didn't mean to say the m-word.

Quite an astute observation by Mr. Switzer. Paying 1/4 that much didn't do so much for SMU.

Was about to respond almost verbatim. All excellent points. Well said, Husker.

Unless Switzer is allowed to directly deposit the $10mil into the accounts of the nations top 100 Our hole would only get deeper. Barry would lose his [deleted] in today's game.
Also just because a guy beats Michigan in one game doesn't mean he's right for this job.

And oh yeah, his players made as much money as he did when he was at OU.

I am just repeating what he said.
As I mentioned earlier, it was great to hear people talking about SMU football on the radio. It doesn't matter who it was really, just the fact it was being discussed.
Jones, Fran, Coker, Dodge, Graham. All are upgrades & we win.

Switzer may be the best recruiter in college fb history, some of the stories about how he reached certain kids are hilarious (digging in the trash can to find out what kind of beer the kids father drank, wearing fur coats to high schools, calling kids in the middle of ou-neb games to tell them he was just thinking about them). I love the guy, wish we could hire him.
