Not that it matters a great deal, but the updated college rankings came out today. Nationally, SMU is ranked 68th, down a few spots from last year. TCU is ranked 110th.

With A&M at #61 and highly dependent upon Texas residents and state funding, I like SMU's long term potential to be the clear #2 in the state. Also, with UT at #48 or so, there's a chance but that's a tough one to overcome. On the undergrad b-school level, SMU could overtake UT.

Rice is No. 1
A&M has probably climbed as much as any school in the last 20 years

True dat. At #17, Rice is unreachable within the next 20 years for either SMU or UT. The Money magazine rankings from about 15 years ago gave Rice a tremendous pop and has allowed them to significantly raise tuition. Being the #1 best buy in America for a few years really gave them a big advantage.

Was SMU ranked above A&M a few years ago? I think SMU has better leadership but A&M has a ton of cash.

I was a bit surprised by TCU being so far behind SMU. Baylor is close.

Very impressive results at SC.

What I find interesting about A&M's figures is that only 54% of their incoming freshmen graduated in the Top 10%. Hearing folks complain about Texas' Top 10% rule, you'd think it was more like 85% to 90%. UT's is around 76% which indicates some constraint.

The UC schools are a lot stricter about the class rank.

Looks like every business school is thrown into the "best" category

I heard a rumor today that Orsini is trying to get Yeshiva U. (#52 academically) on our football schedule for 2011 under the premise that a victory would help our recruiting efforts in the northeast; and, a victory might push us a little closer to their #52 academic rating. I like this philosophy, but is it true ? What is their mascot ?
