Bowling? Heck, SMU is in a conference championship game, and UT is already DONE for the year.
Yes, I fully realize that there is a HUGE difference in conferences, but still, it's a tremendous accomplishment.

Looks like 1983 was the last time that we went to a bowl (lost to Alabama in Sun Bowl) and UT didn't go anywhere.

Thanks for checking...I remember going to that Sun Bowl game and had missed an earlier flight to ELP and did get there right at halftime...SMU was down 28-0 I believe already...NOT a good game to go to.

I think there is a slight difference in dates. UT went to the Cotton Bowl and played on Jan 1 1984 after winning the SWC in 1983. Technically it was a differnt year but it based on the results of the 1983 season.
UT beat SMU in 1983 to have an 8-0 record. SMU finished with a 7-1 record. SMU wasn’t invited to a NY's day bowl. Instead, barely ranked Michigan went to the Sugar bowl while SMU went to the Sun Bowl.

ah, that makes sense since there are two 1984 bowls for UT. thanks ponyte
in that case, i'm not sure when the last time was but it looks like it was at least 50 years ago if not more...

i remember that sugar bowl snub and have never forgiven them. it was and is all about the dollars.
