I saw a re-run of the news that showed him going over... saying that he was 'seriously injured'. Now knowing that he didn't make it I'm sure they won't be showing it anymore... so sad.

Tragedy for all involved, especially the fan's family.

Looking at the reply, it almost looks as if he jumps out for the ball.

Purportedly, the railings meet all applicable safety standards as set by MLB and OSHA, but it mkaes you wonder if this is something that will expand beyond the Rangers.

I know Josh Hamilton has to feel horrible about this. He was trying to do the fans a favor, and then this happens.

Two in two years. I think they probably need to raise the rails a bit so that these guys don't fall over the edge. Of course if they're higher that might make them more likely to fall. Either way, be careful out there. A $5 baseball is not worth your life.

This sucks for all concerned. I hope Josh H handles this without falling off the wagon.

apparently the rails at The Ballpark are 4-5" higher than what is required by OSHA.

Not unlike NHL when little girl was killed by puck....they have netting everywhere now, no reason not to..

This, or having that gap covered by plywood or something, would have prevented this.

Also, if the Ballpark's safety railings are higher than what is required by OSHA, then OSHA's requirements are far too low. Those railings are waist level and below in many places (just see the photo on this story from the DMN: http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/texas- ... llpark.ece).

Horrible tragedy, but there is risk in everything and the mortality rate in the U.S. still stands at 100%. The railings were above code requirements. Chalk it up to pure accident and move on.

my season tix @ AAC are in the 3rd row of the Platinum level, for two reason: one, I didnt want to have to look through or over plexiglass, which is in front of the first row, and two-most importantly-didnt want to be that close to the edge w/ one or more of the kids. I dont know, being up against a ledge or dropoff or whatever always gives me pause

Common sense would say so, but we're so litigious these days that there are no accidents anymore. Someone is always to blame.
