Well last time we played Arkie State they handled us pretty well and we just squeezed by Texas State if I recall correctly. Good DTs are hard to come by. Hopefully he will fill our needs. Only time will tell.

I wonder if they see him staying at DT. If he's really 265 pounds and strong/tough enough to play DT, and fast enough to play RB, couldn't he be an amazing ILB candidate?

Then again, the idea of a high school RB bulking up and playing NT at SMU isn't without precedent. No, I'm not saying this guy is the next Jerry Ball, but who knows? If he could retain that quickness and add some pounds, maybe he could be a similarly strong, quick force inside. We already have a couple of really promising guys for the future in Wright and Wimbley. Sounds like the coaches are collecting some real athletes inside.

Welcome to SMU Nick!

I am very happy to see us get a commit that is 6'1 265lbs. If those stats are accurate, then it would appear that he has the frame to grow into a legit D1 NT. However, I have to admit that his listed offers are disappointing, but I believe he was recruited by Reinbolt, who seems to go after some pretty respectable recruits (compared to other coaches who are perceived to stretch when making offers). It has been reported that he is a RB and DT. I wonder if he spends a lot more time at RB than DT in HS and because colleges do not consider him a D1 Rb is the reason why he does not have better offers.

I also think its great that he is from Texas. While it does not excuse the staff from offering a lot of the top recruits in Texas, I think that in the short term it may be necessary to offer some of the lesser heralded recruits in the state in order to build our reputation back up in Texas. I think when Texas players hear from SMU, the first things that they think of are the Bennett years and the death penalty. I think when Cali players hear from SMU, the first things they think of are JJ's offense and the Hawaii team that went to the Sugar Bowl.

He just finished 11th grade - there's a very good chance he is not done growing.

Not to sound like BUS, but a team just can't have enough quick, active linemen on either side of the ball.

Proud to have you as a Pony, Nick!

It's a Texas recruit?!?
Re Arkansas State: 2008 beat a&m in college station 18-14. In 2007, lost to Texas 21-14 in Austin. Don't know if he can play but as has had some good teams

with Pittman back and the guys coming in this year, he should have an opportunity to RS and get stronger before he ever sees the field. Welcome aboard, Nick.

So we’ve lowered the bar down to Arkansas State and Texas State have we?

Our class is one third complete and outside of Robert Lewis, who is not 100% committed, it is looking a lot like the PB classes of old with total combined offers of Rice, LA Tech, Arkansas State and Texas State.

We have a narrow window by which to enter the BCS world. It is closing by the year. If our remaining class plays out the way it has so far it, it will be a major disappointment.

Don't believe I said anything about lowering the bar. I merely pointed out the fact that we lost to Arkie State and barely beat Texas State the last time we played. I said time would tell as far as the recruit.

But another fact is that with the shortage of very good DTs in the country, and I mean true nose guard types like Farrell from Auburn, it is going to be very hard to persuade them to forgo the AQ teams. This is why I wish we could get men's track back and get a top notch shot putter type that also plays nose guard ala Michael carter.

Careful now, that's treasonous talk right there!!!! Hope the sarcasm came through. There was a SDSU Rivals writeup yesterday about Lewis who literally, word for word called us a place-holder until something better comes up. "...just basically wait it out until signing day and see if something better comes up."

Don't want to spoil any Rivals story, because I love what they do and they're essential to our recruiting success, but that little bit seemed pertinent to the discussion.

no we should be happy we are getting them now. besides, once they hit the field and strart playing, nobody except the recruiting experts who post on this website will care about recruit rankings. which is to say.....nobody.
