Now clearly, this is the type of player that the coaching staff needs to be aware of.
Justin CombsHe is already getting
national media attention. I am baffled that SMU isn't listed as an offeree on this guy. Couldn't we find a place to play a "Little Diddy" on the field.
/endsarcasm.

Offering this kid would give a big PR splash. How about seeing Puffy and his entourage walking around in SMU garb. I would offer based on that alone.
Coming from Iona Prep, which is a good school, the kid will be able to qualify and keep his grades. Outside of summer stuff, he isn't playing at a high level of competition. TX HS football is simply better than NY. The article does say good things about him though.

Isn't Iona Prep a good basketball school? If anything, it could help establish a pipeline?

It's an okay hoops school. They play in the Catholic School league around NYC. If taking any kid provides an entre into that league for hoops then it is more than worth it. They will also play Mt Vernon HS and New Rochelle HS those are really good hoops schools.
