Al only had one deep ball (WSU) in the first few games, and Darius' bomb against TCU was a one-handed highlight off an overthrow. So June's right about "at this time last year." Al turned it on mid-season, but again at least one of those deep balls was a bailout of a terrible pass (Tulane). Compare that to the drops against UTEP and A&M, and the deep balls we finally hit last week, and I think McD has thrown the deep ball better up to this point. I appreciate what Padron has accomplished for us, but Al and Emmanuel were also a huge part of that. You've made that point yourself a few times here.
I watched those deep balls again last Nite. I'm convinced if they were thrown against A&M or a competent DB those balls get picked off most of the time. Let's see what he does against better competition-I discount exhibition matches

Who was covering Thompson? I dont remember who the defender was, but if it was Taurean Nixon, he's a 6'1 190 three star DB who had offers from TCU, Houston, NM etc

meh. another exhibition. Where one of the 2 db's-Stevenson-had offers from Baylor, Missouri, and UTEP

I hope you are being sarcastic and not buying that line from June. Still makes me roll my eyes.
By Stallilogic, we only play 2.5 games this season. A&M, TCU, and the half of the game against Houston that their offense is on the field. Everything else is exhibition.

Yes, it is sarcasm (from the word "because" to the end). The throws were nicely placed but the receivers didn't catch them because they lost focus. Perhaps it's because they've never seen a nicely thrown deep pass before.
Im not an expert but I disagree with June's comment based on the games Ive watched live and on tape replay Then again, June throws out an awful lot of coach speak so who knows if he really believes it.
