TCU to accept $20 million dollar yearly pay out, I mean, B12 invite, rather than return to MWC

NOTE:
A Big 12 source told ESPN.com last week that the conference got more "expert information about fit/value/enhancement to our league," late Wednesday. The Big 12 knew of TCU's keen interest.


"There wasn't any reason to wait if we knew it would be the right choice," said the source, who added that "additional expansion is still possible."

They don't get $20 mil for quite a while. Their share gets phased in over a number of years....probably right up to the point that the whole conference implodes.

Plus, they have to pay $5 mil to the Big East, and I assume there is some sort of exit fee for MWC too.

how so? the b12 contract starts next year. It's equal sharing.

mwc exit fee was already paid if at all.

I could be wrong, but I thought I read something last week that even with the equal revenue sharing TCU would only get a 1/3 share or something of the sort for the first 2 or 3 years. (Sort of like a buy-in.)

Same thing happened with Nebraska entering the Big Ten. For the first 2 years, B1G guaranteed Nebraska the same revenue they would get from Big 12, then remaining B1G schools got their full cut, then if anything is left over revenue was shared amongst all schools. However, they did renegotiate their contract, plus added the B1G championship game, so it probably all evened out in the end.

As far as "academic revenue" the Big Ten schools are all part of some academic alliance (can't recall the name for it) that shares research dollars. It was something crazy like an extra $50 mil a year that Nebraska would get on the academic side for making the move.

Thanks for the explanation. So that means Nebraska can use the money to actually teach their athletles to read and write on a 8th grade level?

Reading and writing is a future goal in their Master Plan.
