Yeah. Or change it to "goodbye Big 12." Not many of their traditions make much sense. I have some good Aggie friends but the whole ethos of the place strikes me as very high schoolish.

Keep in mind Alabama's fight song references Georgia Tech - that hasn't had any meaning in what? 50, 60 years?

Georgia Tech left the SEC after the 1963 season. Among the factors were the injury to a Tech player in the Alabama game and the policy at Alabama and other conference members in subjecting recruits to try-outs and cutting those who did not make after it was too late to enroll somewhere else.
From the
WIKI:Dodd's tenure included Georgia Tech's withdrawal from the Southeastern Conference. The initial spark for Dodd's withdrawal was a historic feud with Alabama Crimson Tide Coach Bear Bryant. The feud began when Tech was visiting the Tide at Denny Stadium in 1961. After a Tech punt, Alabama fair-caught the ball. Chick Granning of Tech was playing coverage and relaxed after the signal for the fair catch. Darwin Holt of Alabama continued play and smashed his elbow into Granning's face causing severe fracturing in his face, a broken nose, and blood-filled sinuses. Granning was knocked unconscious and suffered a severe concussion, the result of which left him unable to play football ever again. Dodd sent Bryant a letter asking Bryant to suspend Holt after game film indicated Holt had intentionally injured Granning. Bryant never suspended Holt. The lack of discipline infuriated Dodd and sparked Dodd's interest in withdrawing from the SEC.
Another issue of concern for Dodd was Alabama's and other SEC schools' over-recruitment of players. Universities would recruit more players than they had roster space for. During the summer practice sessions, the teams in question would cut the players well after signing day thus preventing the cut players from finding new colleges to play for. Dodd appealed the SEC administration to punish the "tryout camps" of his fellow SEC members but the SEC did not. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_Te ... nce_titles

I think that "Comin Around the Mountain" is West Virginia's fight song.

Actually it does...
SMU started playing football in 1915 and didn't have a fight song. They eventually got one, but no one would sing it and it just sat there. In the 1920's at a pep rally (as the legend goes) someone was playing a piano and started to play the jingle for Peruna, the tonic, which folks drank during prohibition to get a buzz. The jingle was to the tune of "She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain." The words for the jingle was "She'll be loaded with Peruna..." The students started clapping to the tune and that's how it became our adopted fight song, Thus when Cy Barcus got the first mascot it was logical to him Peruna.
"and that's the rest of the story." - Paul Harvey.

Great.
Point is, nobody gives a [deleted] anymore and people are forced to go to random, obscure websites to point out boring, miscellaneous facts that drunks refute in the middle of the night. A$M and Texas are headed that way.
