This is the biggest CUSA game YTD
Both teams have good offenses and defenses. Both teams have defeated quality opponents. Both carry a 5-1 record into the game and are receiving votes for the top 25.

In FBS Overal ranking (actual average)

Passing Rushing Points for Points against

USM 32 (263) 19 (213) 19 (39) 38 (22)
SMU 10 (332) 96 (116) 33 (34) 23 (20)

USM folks feel their pass D is very good and up to the task. Strange, seem to have heard that from someone else recently.
USM hasn't faced 4 or 5 very good receiver sets like ours. We have depth at the receiver spot in all positions and can put pressure on a pass D all over the place. I do think our D is capable of holding USM's offense in check

I think SMU has its hands full. Definitely one of the toughest challenges for us this year (on the road against a good opponent in a big game with huge conference implications). Good thing we had A$M and TCU to give us big game on the road experience.

SMU 31
USM 17

That place is going to be rocking, and we have a target on our back. (something new for us)

I think we will get a solid win but we need to stay humble and hungry. They really haven't played anyone (exceptional win against a weaker Navy team than usual and a spotty UVA). They lost to Marshall also...

SMU 42
Brett Favre 24

Was worried at the start of the season this game was on the road. But after TCU, I don't think that is near the obstacle I thought it would be.
Should be fun to watch.

USM beat Virginia which just knocked off #13 GT. Other than that, I agree they have not had a robust schedule.

Navy is off so far in the year (Got a feeling they will be improved and hitting on all cylinders against us).

They do have some strong athletes and are well coached.

Obviously we have to keep our turnovers way down (like we have in the last two games). We need to get our O on the field a bit more and rest our D more than we did against UCF.

I would like to see a bit more consistency with pass accuracy on short passes that convert 3rd downs. And the special teams once again have to play solid.

USM has created turnovers which has helped them significantly. Nice if we could get a couple of turnovers while limiting ours to one or less.

SMU and USM are both considered top tier teams in CUSA. And USM has more at stake than we do with a loss to Marshall already. Beat USM and we are in a great position for the rest of the season.

UCF was over ranked by most. USM isn't.

Thank goodness we had a tough OOC schedule to prepare us for these games.
