Southern Miss....Quick Look

For those who do not know, these guys have a pretty darn good offense. They put 63 on Navy!

Their QB Austin Davis has 1,558 yards in 6 Games.

Their RB, Hardy seems like a decent back with two games with over a 100, including 172 against Rice.

Seem to spread the ball out mostly between 3 receivers.

These guys are coming off a bye as well. Should be interesting...

Hardy is out for the season with an injury. Our 4th string rb, Jeremy Hester is a 5' 6" scat back that had a great day against Navy. Tracy Lampley was moved from the slot receiver position to rb and also had a good day against Navy. Our oline struggled early in the year, but has played much better in Virginia and Navy games.

Austin Davis at QB is a four year starter. Smart player that does a good job reading defenses. Biggest improvement this year for the USM team is the defense under new DC Dan Disch. This should be a great game. The Rock will be packed and it will be loud. For those making it to the game, you will enjoy the tailgating and gameday environment. Don't be shy about asking for a drink or food. USM tailgarters are some of the most friendly in the country. My understanding is that the closest hotel rooms are in Jackson and on the coast. It will be a very nice crowd.

imagining what it will look like when Marquis, Taylor, and Margus crush a 5'6" RB.....all day.
oh, a good hit or two from JGD and Taylor Reed, too.
who is their 5th string RB?

Hester is one of the strongest players on the team. He drug four Navy defenders about 6 yards in the Navy game. I seriously doubt if he can't handle anything your players dish out. Also, we have a huge oliine and when he hits the hole, he is hard to find. We have a running back also that was out for the Navy game with a sprain, but will be back for the SMU game. Jamal Woodyard. Auburn came after him hard at the end of the recruiting season, but he held firm with his USM commitment. We will not be hurting at the rb position.

Total D by yards has SMU at #24. USM is #42
By points/game allowed SMU is #23 USM #38

By passing yards allowed, SMU #64 (averaging 234 yards /game) USM #36 (averaging 208 yards/game) To put things in perspective, UCF is #2 in the nation averaging 143 per game and we only hung 358 yards on them.

USM is #14 in the nation in interceptions.

Should be a very close game. TUrnovers will really be key. We can pass on this team but need to protect the ball. Be nice if we can get a few turnovers by our D and continue with great special team play.

good info. thanks.
their O-line does not appear any bigger than those we have already faced.
really small rb's . looking forward to it.

This one feels like a real close one. I did not think UCF was going to be.

Vegas obviously agrees, but I thought we would have been favored. Maybe the home crowd get them the nod.

Top 25 is on the line for both.

UCF had the same attitude.

Don't be surprised if SMU comes out of there with a double digit win...
