Patriots release DBs Moore, Ventrone

The Patriots released DB Sterling Moore(notes) and S Ross Ventrone(notes), the team announced on Monday. There have not been any corresponding moves made.

Ventrone spent most of last season on the team's practice squad and has bounced back and forth between the active roster and practice squad this season. He has played in three games, including Sunday's win over the Cowboys.

Moore, an undrafted rookie, was signed to the Patriots' practice squad on Oct. 5 after spending training camp with the Raiders. He was active for Sunday's game but did not record any stats.

The Patriots might activate players from their physically-unable-to-perform list during the bye week, explaining the cuts. DLs Ron Brace(notes) and Brandon Deaderick(notes) and RB Kevin Faulk(notes) began the season on the PUP list.

Both Moore and Ventrone could return to the practice squad.

The word out of Foxboro is he will likely end up back on the practice squad after clearing waivers or whatever procedural things they need to go through...

Sterling Moore was reported to be in the locker room in Foxboro this morning - a good indication he will be (or has already been) signed to the practice squad.
