The New York Times is reporting Missouri's decision to officially apply for membership in the Southeastern Conference is "inevitable and imminent."

The newspaper, citing an official familiar with school decisions involving conference affiliation, reported Monday night that Mizzou officials expect to get enough votes among SEC presidents to become a member, although the school would still need to be formally invited to join the conference.

Missouri curators, who must approve any change in conference alignment, are scheduled to next meet at the University of Missouri, Kansas City on Oct. 20-21.

Mizzou isn't going to apply unless they genuinely believe they are going to be accepted - they aren't ECU.

I agree that this could be a disaster for the SEC. It's just a bad fit - A&M absolutely makes sense, Mizzou doesn't. I think they just want to put this whole thing to bed and they see TV markets and academics.

Heck, I can deal with the idea that we aren't going, but I'd like to see them take someone who makes sense.

i still don't see it. i know there's a lot of chatter about it, and the mizzou officials wouldnt be spinning their wheels over it if they didn't have any confidence.

but it just doesn't make sense.

I don't know anyone in Tuscaloosa or even alums around Dallas that are in favor of adding a Midwestern school to the SEC - they (Missou) will be on the outside looking in all the time. A&M will make a great conference mate. I am hoping SMU will continue to improve and when the next round of realignment goes down SMU will be in a position to join the SEC. Believe me, the SEC is far superior to the Big 12. TCU will soon discover pillow talk with Bevo ain't much fun!

Missouri is still debating on whether they want to go the B10.
