Clearly they are interested in seeing SMU, but not Central Florida.

At least that is how I am choosing to take it. 8) :D

this article is as logical as the andy katz piece.

in this one, they tout the virtues and power of big east bball at the beginning. then at the end they talk about the big east not being as strong as it was last year.

gotta pick one side of the coin, fellas.

Man the ESPN propaganda machine is in full blown hate mode. Why is SMU being singled out of all the new candidates?

Biggest TV market amongst potential new members?

Some of you are way too sensitive. ESPN does not hate SMU just because a couple of writers say something negative about us.....and it's not really negative, it's just the truth. I don't agree with Andy Katz's stance on Memphis and Temple being a better option for the Big East, but he's still a good writer and and makes good points. We all know football drives the bus in conference talk, otherwise every conference would go after Memphis. Basketball people like Katz and most fans/media associated with the Big East can't and won't see that because basketball is life around that region.

Seeing a bball game at MSG is a very cool experience, as is going to NYC. And having a chance to see my school play there is definitely something I wouldn't miss.

There is an overriding arrogance about ESPN and their BCS connections that leaves a message that non BCS schools don't matter and should be treated like upstarts. Not to mention their obvious bias against the BE.

You guys crack me up. HELLO, once we're in the BE we'll benefit from the said bias. SMU just needs to go "all in" with regards to quickly building its athletic program in all areas once the school receives an invite. You guys act like they media will cast the final, and deciding, vote as to whether SMU gets in...[/quote]

The broadcast networks pull a lot of strings. They were the ones who put together the Big 12 along with UT. I have never felt that their influence was a positive force in CFB ever since the 1982 season when we and Georgia were undefeated. ABC billed the Sugar Bowl, with Penn State and Georgia as the national championship game even though Penn State had a loss. And arguably played a weaker schedule than us. The media played along with it, a lot of money was made, and we were voted number 2. So I have my reasons to dislike the media's meddling in sports.
