this will be tough on my brother...
he is a lifelong uconn basketball fan, as he was born in Conn and we lived there for a bit.
he now goes to SMU...wonder if he will maintain his allegiance in basketball. i would smack him upside the head if he did

Could just be coach talk until they are able to jump ship for the ACC. Maybe they finally see what a great chance they will have for a BCS bowl every year. Wait for UCONN to sign on the dotted line to commit its tv rights to the BE before this is more than coach talk.

I was wondering who that was too since I graduated from UConn and my daughter goes to SMU.

no, UConn-SMU said that he has his undergrad from UConn and did his graduate school at SMU during the early 2000s.

Coach Pasq. has about as much influence on UConn's decision-making with respect to realignment as does the actress that played Henrietta Hippo. He is a legacy hire from the recently fired AD, Jeff Hathaway. Our new President fired him in one of her first major actions upon her appointment. Coach Pasq. supported the fired AD.
At 65 there's a good chance he won't see the start of the 2013 season.
But that doesn't mean he isn't looking forward to playing SMU and the others.
Interesting tidbit about the AD Hathaway-when he was fired he was given a severance of $700,000. This amount would be reduced dollar for dollar if he became employed. He did. By John Marianatto, at a salary of $1 a year. So UConn is paying for his services at the Big East. UConn was not consulted by Marinatto on the hire.
UConn is only committed to stabilizing the Big East. UConn's position has been consistent in all of this. If the ACC comes calling, UConn is gone. As far as grant of rights, that is a nonstarter with Pres. Herbst.
If all the schools coming into the BE were like you guys, it would be different. Alas, the Island of Misfit Schools sees more beat-up boats about to breach its shores.

Boston College wants to be the only New England team in the ACC and will block efforts by U Conn, but if the ACC goes to 16 team Conference then maybe so....."The final thing in UConn's favor, and the thing that might be the most important, is the very nature of the realignment. No one seriously thinks the ACC added Pittsburgh and Syracuse because they're natural fits in the ACC's long-term dream of a 14-team conference, just like no one thinks they're looking for a 15th and 16th team for those reasons. These conference transfers are straight-up business deals. Money talks and nothing else matters. The simple truth is this: if the ACC thinks it's better off staying at 14 teams, or has an addition scenario that can make it more money without UConn, UConn isn't going to get an invitation. But if the ACC decides 16-team conferences are the way of the future, and UConn is one of the two schools that will help it make the most money, that invitation is coming"
