SMU tour guide

Stopped by SMU this morning to get some tickets for the UofH game. Heard a tour guide talking about how bad the team was and how nobody was at the games. Now, he could have then talked about how much better things are now after I left, but I just can't wait for the day that discussing down years is just not done. It's a copeland era mentality we haven't fully clensed.

I love how students choose to ignore the fact that were 5-2 with a win over a ranked opponent

I would have interrupted the tour guide and made him eat his words. Telling prospective students before they are even on campus that the football team sucks? That's a great way to get new students excited and out at the games. Pathetic

Maybe you just jumped in at the wrong time in the conversation. He could have been asked a question about the CUSA/MWC/BE 32 team merger. Then stated if that happened the team would be bad and no one would want to go games.

I would honestly send an email about your experience to the Director of Admissions and copy the AD. There obviosly needs to be some better training for the tour guides regarding athletics and certain "talking points" that they should have to get across to potential students!!!!!

Seriously...how dumb can you be?
Even if we did suck (which we don't), you've got to spin it like we are improving...went to bowl games past 2 years.
This really pisses me off.

+1
This is an attitude that needs to be eliminated. We have the same problem on the board... people are so used to the team being bad that they have a hard time adjusting when something good might be happening.
Actually, I probably would have politely called the tour guide on it...
"Actually, we're 5-2, we beat the defending conference champions at home last week, and we're on our way to a third straight bowl game. That's a lot better than 'not very good' in my book. We need students like you to support the team."
And then just walked off.

That kid needs a good old country [deleted] whoopin'. I would've called him out in front of all the parents and prospective students and made him look real stupid... Even if the team was 0-7 you dont talk about it when you are trying to sell the school. What a [deleted] idiot...

I didn't feel like I should say anything because he very well could have been leading up to "but now, the team is winning, everything is better, it's a whole different world, what you heard elsewhere about SMU is old news and now untrue" etc. I just don't know, as he had moved out of earshot. In the end, nothing can change this type of behavior except sustained winning.
