Dear Pony Fans coming to Tulsa..
Posted: Tue Oct 25, 2011 3:55 pm
I will be hosting Runaway Golf Cart Marathon Races @ Glenn Dobbs Ave on Saturday if anyone is into things like that.
I know a few of the posters are coming up.
Here are some humble suggestions:
Lodging:
The Mayo.
If you dont stay at the Mayo youve already failed on your trip to Tulsa and most likely are failing at life in general. You can however redeem yourself and venture to the Mayo rooftop bar after the game. Its a really nice place with a beautiful view of our small and humble burg. The [deleted] factor on the roof is high for Tulsa but very low compared to the Park Cities, Uptown, N. Dallas, Plano, Frisco and all the other horrible places that most of you are from. (Note that Lakewood and East Dallas Cools were excluded)
Pre Game bars and activities
The Buccaneer is the closest the older Pony alums will come to the Regal Beagle. Its a good place to be an awful person. I dont drink anymore but If I were to find a place to get black out awful I would go to the Buc.
Unlike the administration on the Hilltop the University of Tulsa actually lets people come in and out of the game and beer stands are set up all around the stadium. There is a nice (albeit a blue hair dominated) scene on the U. Its a nice green area with tents, beer stands and dorky Tulsa fans trying to act cool.
Please be advised that comparing our little scene to the Blvd is pointless. I know how awesome the BLVD is but I also know how lame it is that 90% of the people stay out there and dont watch the Ponies.
My favorite Tailgate is @ Glenn Dobbs on the NE side of the Stadium. There is usually a rowdy crowd over there.
Places to go where you can cry and commiserate with eachother after watching the Ponies get bent over and violated in their no no place.
1: Mayo Rooftop Bar. Kindof a douched out scene but lots of good looking trim to keep you distracted from the tight shirts. Not quite the Candleroom in terms of its [deleted] level but interesting regardless.
2: Blue Dome: Arnies is pretty awesome. You wont find tight shirts here. You will typically mind really good blues and the occasional hot. There are some awful country bars down here so be mindful not to walk across the street. If you see lots of OSU flags at a bar. Turn around as it will be full of country bumkins.
3: McNellies is a nice place on 2nd and Elgin. Its got loads of beers and usually caters to the 20-30 year old crowd. This is probably a good place to either creep on or try to pick up hots.
4: Cains Ballroom/Brady Disctric - Both venues are badass but no one is playing. You could always stand outside and talk about the heater that Widespread Panic played in 1996. There is a really cool club/bar next to Cains called SOundpony. Its a little hipster but pretty fun. There is a really nice lounge type place called the Hunt Club. Its 100% non [deleted] with enjoyable scenery.
There are some other areas in town worth Mentioning. Cherry Street (15th and Peoria) --- The White Owl is way heady. Brookside (31st and Peoria) - Pretty awful in general. The Brook is a good sports bar.
