So does this mean an expanded stadium?

Post by WorldStang »

I know - we have issues filling what we got - but I'm curious if an expanded stadium is part of the deal? We heard all the talk re our push to go big 12... Where natural rivalries made an expansion more likely..

Just curious..

Also - I would hope the athletic department goes back to blue uniforms when we move to the big east. Everyone is red - UH, Rutgers, Louisville

Just a preference

I was thinking the same thing earlier today. B12 implied bigger stadium. I am not sure we need to be in a rush to expand, except for more boxes perhaps.

Big East Stadium Capacities

Cincy - 35,097
UConn - 40,000
UL - 57,000
Rutgers - 52,454
Syracuse - 50,000

I don't think there is an immediate need to expand our 32,000+ capacity stadium, but who knows if that was part of the negotiations to get in the BE.

I have to ask - how many opposing fans are really going to travel to Dallas from some of those Big East Schools. It would have been far different if it were Big 12 where there are large alumni bases already in the DFW area . . .

Air force, Houston, Louisville - I'm in.

If we're doing well - UCF, maybe check out the east coast schools

No reason to fill in the bowl. Nobody in that conference will push our attendance to 32k-45k by themselves.

nobody we will be playing in the Big East is going to travel well enough to make an impact on our attendance and my guess it that Ford's capacity will be just fine. We need to work towards having more crowd like last year's TCU game...but only Houston under the right circumstances (maybe AFA or Navy?) will bring enough visiting fans to have a "TCU like" impact

Lets get to a filled Ford first. Big12 implied expansion due to so many Big12 alumni in DFW ready to fill the stadium. Add boxes first if alumni are already lined up and ready to pay, would generate more revenue than a second tier of empty seats. Too bad the field is already so far into the ground. Cowboy style ground level suites would be interesting. At least give boxes balconies so it looks like we have a few fans.

Hopefully we don't have to expand at this current moment. Don't think we are ready for that.
A full Ford is a great atmosphere (TCU game last year for example).
Wouldn't be opposed to more boxes on east side, but that would seem to prevent any addition of a deck (not that it is necessary right now...)

Fill it first. I agree 100%.
Some people simply forget just how bad it was...

I feel the conferences understand small schools dont need to have giant stadiums. If we every fill the stadium beyond its point and we cant or dont want to expand, lets get back our old field, Cotton Bowl. I like the way Ford looks, and its so much more exciting when its full rather than having a 45000 people stadium and if lucky filling it with 28,000.
