Vs. a Big Ten matchup in Dallas where there may be a few SMU fans in the seats?

Only football game on TV that day so we don't have to share the spotlight. Could create a lot of excitement on ESPN on June returning home to face his old team. People will most likely have off work and be able to watch the game on tv. Players enjoy the free trip to Hawaii, but that's nothing for you to get excited about.

Other than that I got nothing.

to be clear, I am sick that I can't keep talking about a Liberty Bowl in Memphis, but not being able to take the family to our 3rd bowl in a row, just leaves me sick.

I am fully invested in this program, just don't get June's excitement on going to that bowl game. Seems selfish.

Well June did flat out say that SMU v Hawaii would be a sell out and it would really help out the state of Hawaii. However, after our last trip to the Hawaii bowl, applications were up 50% because of the exposure.

Media exposure is about the only reason. Most bowls in general are not that exciting and are a financial drain. Everyone wants one but they are not that great. Just a chance for another game. Hawaii vs SMU will get lots of attention because it is June returning to the school he helped make famous to play in sort of a rematch. Also the only game on that day. More compelling match up than most bowl games that will be on t.v. Great national exposure for the program and school.

No reason. We will be flat since it will be old news to our guys. It is just June wanting to go where he will be worshipped. It is just ego

Might be nice if we could go somewhere our fans could see our bowl game that is not our own stadium. But why would that enter into anything?

It will feel like a home game in Hawaii. No students.

An economist, June is not. The only way a SMU - Hawaii matchup makes a blip on the local economy is if SMU was to bring 10,000+ fans to the game who stayed for 5 or more days. As it is, the 200 people that will show up from SMU will not register on the local economy.

It might sell out, and that will help the bowl game finances, but the majority of that money will come from Hawaiians who are merely shifting money from one activity to another. Very little new money will enter the Hawaiian economy, which is what would be helpful to the island people.

June wants to go to Hawaii for one reason, he loves Hawaii and they love him. He'd rather go somewhere he is treated like a king, than down the road to the Cotton Bowl, SMU fans be damned (can't say I blame him with the [deleted] attendance).

Only the coaches and younger players want to go to the hawaii bowl. I believe the older players want to play in a different bowl game since they've already played in the hawaii bowl in 2009. What's more exciting? playing in a bowl game you've played in two years ago, or play somewhere new?

Yeah, and two years ago he said TV ratings for SMU-Nevada would be topped only by the BCS National Championship. Surprise - didn't happen.

O.K. winning the C-USA championship and going to the Liberty Bowl would be great, not happening this year.
Think it is great that the Haawaii Bowl is probable. Great that we are going to be going to a bowl three years in a row. Can't believe the whining and the attacks on June.

The people complaining about not going to a bowl in Dallas are the same people not going to Ford for the scheduled games.
