about time. Should have left 10 years ago when he was relevant and people admired him, instead of being the creepy party guest who would never go home.

If they waited for that, they waited too long. Now, it'll look like he retired because of the actions of his perv former assistant coach.

no -- more like because he covered up the actions of his perv former assistant coach.

It wasn't a cover up -- it was blatant negligence.

What a sad ending to a legend's career.

This story is so grecked up it's not funny... So many lapses of judgement for so long.

I think its kind of creepy that an 85 year head coach stayed on this long after HE KNEW this story was swept under the table without full disclosure. This guy has been running around for a decade and still constitutes a possible threat to a bunch of kids if the case against him is proven

A sad and tragic end to a half century of coaching. This is all that anyone will think of when you hear the name Joe Paterno from now until the end of time. The school, athletic department, and football coaching staff that knew about these incidents should all be ashamed.

BTW, on BaD Radio just now they said there is a clammoring out there for Penn State to get the Death Penalty. Compared it to what SMU did and said the NCAA's chief reason for isolating SMU was the "administrative and institutional knowledge" of what was going on regarding the payment of players. Clearly in this case various members of the Penn State administration and athletic department knew of these incidents and chose to do nothing about it.

I'm not sure Penn State should be subject to NCAA sanctions b/c of this but I can certainly see that the argument has merit.

I seriously doubt the NCAA Code sanctions criminal conduct so there is no way you could punish Penn St with recruiting/extra benefit related sanctions. NCAA has no business getting involved in criminal justice issues
