Excellent artricle and perspective from a Penn Stater

Here is an extremely well written article which records the pain felt for the victims, as well as the alumni and fans of PSU. This is a cautionary and constructive tale for Penn State fans, but more importantly, those outside the program, including the media. Although our sins of the past pale in comparison, you can translate somewhat the feelings into those felt by SMU fans and alums in the late 1980's.
It is easy to be critical, but 99% of the Penn State family is embarassed and confused. The feelings and emotions are thoughtfully expressed:

He sounds like and I am sure hey is a good man. What I take from his heart is that he wants to turn the train around as quickly as possible and get back to business. Well I have news for him...
The only way they have a chance to regain self respect for themselves and their school is take the same energy he has wanting to rebuild their program, magnify it into mounting a movement that demands and vigorously Investigates and prosecutes everyone within Penn first.. all while working even harder to pursue and destroy what appears to be a network within the Mile Club that will connect to others connected to other higher or parallel networks that will eventually reveal and destroy those who control their courts and the courts across the nation. Expose all who are blocking investigation, covering for themselves, protecting kingpins, shutting down investigations like the FBI to the very highest levels in Washington DC.
So I say to him, don't tell me what to think about your school and it's denial and justifications for it's criminals and misguided students. Get to work, face the challenge, mount a movement to get to the bottom of where the Satanic Abuse comes from then you and your pathetic school will be my hero and saviors to thousands and thousands and thousands of raped children.

this author sounds sincere and may have a better perspective than most in penn state community.
but, from what I see, 99% of the penn state community is confused -- only about why they are without their coach. many have begun to mouth the words of being concerned and focused on the victims, but the vast majority (in fact, all that I have heard) return to hinting and lamenting about the injustice of their coach being fired.
the few students who understood the ramifications of allowing a predator to roam free, who were interviewed the night of the riot, repeatedly stated that their views were far and away the minority on campus.
the mournful tone among those connected to penn state appears to be more about the loss of their football program, than a genuine remorse for the wounds inflicted upon the innocents.

You have to feel bad for Penn State fans. However, looking at the mob-like scenes on TV when Paterno and Spanier were fired, I think many of them are very misguided. They built Paterno up to be above the University and that is where they went wrong. They had no checks and balances and Penn State's decisions were driven by the potential impact it would have on their football program instead of the impact it would end up having ultimately on the victims by turning a blind eye.

and that is why it the payout on these civil cases will be so high.
and maybe why schools / institutions / individuals will be less likely to put themselves in this position again....sadly not due to the ethics of it, but to the potential huge financial losses.
