I'll Take Another 7 Win Season

I predicted 7-5 at the beginning of the year. Was hoping for 8-4, especially after going 5-1. Just expected to beat either Navy or Tulsa and get beat by TCU. Good year for us , especially with our QB problems. Our defense played very well this year. Had our offense given them any hope and rest I am sure they would have held Tulsa and UH to a lot less than they did. Not sure how next year goes on offense with QB questions, and an all new OL.We definitely need JUCO OL this class... But on defense we should be stout and have the best LB's in whatever conference we are in. Imagine Sander, Davis, Moreland and Reed. Only question mark may be at DE? Im expecting our secondary to be pretty good .

Anyway, 7-5 and 5-3 in conference is fine with me after 25 years of watching the worst team in college football. Thanks June and Staff. Looking forward to the bowl game and hopefully another 8 win season. We compete in our conference now which is where I want to be. Two 6-2 in conference seasons followed by a 5-3 season are solid years of competing against teams on our level.

As far as the game today, 5 turnovers? Man after that we have to be ranked 120 in T.O. margin! Was proud of our two true freshman rb's who put up nearly 200 yards on the ground. We had more rushing yards than passing with a converted DT and a true freshman rb ( who did not play much his last year or two in HS or something?) against one of the worst pass d's in the country! Once we get a QB things will be a lot different. Hopefully Padron is ready to go next year.

I will CERTAINLY take a 7-5 regular season if it includes a W vs the Froggies at Froggieland. Even with all of the horrid QB play in the second half - this a successful year for SMU football. SOme will doubt - but if you look back at the positive momentum, this was a critical year for us. If we land in the Big East, the 5-1 start had to have helped.

As we all know - better things are yet to come...

If you listened to Jones in his post game interview he said he thought next year would be a step backward due to the late recruiting period he had after his hire. Be prepared. This could be a little coach speak but in my opinion, there was no benefit for him to say that at this particular time unless he actually felt that way.

If Padron does not play and we go with Preston, Kaiser or the true freshman coming in, and an all new OL, I cant imagine having a winning season, even in C-USA. If Padron gets over his injury and we take 2 JUCO OL I can see us having a winning season. Looking to 2013 and 2014 as our breakout years

Agreed - next year is not THE year. But I like the fact that we are relevant again. The last two years have been extremely important to the program. I am talking about 30 for 30, brand recognition, increased recruiting opportunities, the Big East, . . .

The amount of people that know about SMU football, that SMU is in Dallas, the history of the program, etc. etc. has skyrocketed in the last 12 months. We will not know the true impact for years - but I believe that we have done the right things in this critical time period.

Thank you Thad, thank you Circle of Champions, thank you Steve. O, Thank you June.

That is a load of bullsh coming from him. And he really needs a lesson on coachspeak.

He really shouldn't sell anyone on that not after he had the 2009, 2010 and 2011 recruiting seasons. He's speaking out of both sides of his mouth.

He said what mrydel is reciting but in previous occasions he has spoken about how he is one more recruiting class away from really getting there. He would also suggest that the Darius Johnson class was a bust and the sophomore group is also not going to meet expectations.

Well, which is it June?

I thought you and your listless staff were going to improve the talent and have people pick up and get this rolling....and now you're saying this?

But I would suggest that if 2012 is a bust season, then it would reavel the lack of recruiting work being done will appear.

Mitch, Coach Jones is right. In those classes some players that committed and signed did not into get into SMU. Also, we have a tough scehdule next year with out even going to the Big East. If we go to the Big East the schedule gets tougher. It will be very tought to get 6 wins over the next 2 years let alone 7.

Sorry, this season was a step backward for us. The second half of the season was Bennett-esque and hard to watch. I'm ready for some momentum to carry us to the next level. Glad we got to "above mediocre" from where we were under Bennett, but I'm already tired of being here. Let's now advance the ball and get to some 8,9 or 10+ win seasons.

BRStang, I think those types of seasons (8,9, or 10 wins) are about 3 or 4 years away. That is if we take our recruiting as a whole by all coaches to another level.

he may want to blame it on the late recruiting start - but it is probably just that the schedule is tougher.
