Posted tonight on the San Diego newspaper's website. Nothing shocking in here.
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2011 ... n-serious/San Diego State has entered discussions with the Big East Conference about joining that league’s proposed western division, a source with knowledge of the situation said.
The talks became more serious after negotiations broke down between the Big East and Brigham Young, which also had considered joining the league as a football-only member.
SDSU Athletic Director Jim Sterk declined comment on the status of the talks with the Big East.
If SDSU joined, it likely wouldn’t happen until at least 2013 and probably would be for football only, forcing the Aztecs to find another conference home for its other sports, possibly the Big West.

Gut feeling: speculation turns out to be true and San Diego State joins, allowing the rest of the dominoes to fall into place.

Would be interesting to see the difference between travel cost for Olympic sports being in the MWC vs WCC or Big West

Why wouldn't the Big East want SDSU for basketball too? Of all the schools joining, they currently have the strongest basketball program.

I know nothing is "absolute" in travel, but it's often the same or cheaper for me to fly to/from Hawaii than to/from New York, Los Angeles, and Miami.
I can't imagine the difference in costs in travel between the Big East / MWC would be anything but minimal.

It's not necessarily the cost. That's a long flight for a Wednesday night game

I hope this realignment with the BE gets resolved quickly. It has drug on for longer than 2 months now and I am sure some of the original 'invites' are getting really tired of the delays.
GO PONIES!!!
