JJ's 2012 comments & a look at the schedule

JJ's postgame comments about 2012 floored me b/c I think it's pretty ballsy to say in your fifth year you will be struggling to maintain a borderline .500 record.
But let's take a look at the actual schedule to see if he's full of it or not.
Non conf
at Baylor - no RG3, so toss up
Stephen F. Austin - W
Texas A&M - L
TCU - toss up
CUSA
Memphis - W
Southern Miss - toss up
at UCF - toss up
Tulsa - toss up
Houston - toss up
at UTEP - W
at Tulane - W
at Rice - W
So 5 should-wins, 6 toss ups, 1 probable loss.
This isn't a world beater schedule. Especially if A&M buys out the game and we have to backfill with someone easier.

just having a qb that can run a 4 yard gain out of bounds will be worth two wins.
if jones puts in a signal system there is another win
we got 7 wins right there!

TAMU will be sans Fuller and Tannehill, maybe with a new coaching staff. Do they lose Gray or their other 1A back, or are they juniors this year?

They lose Gray but Christine Michael will be back. RG3 will be back unless he declares for the NFL draft, he is a junior.

RG III has already graduated IN 3 1/2 years, and now is working towards his Masters. I think all RG III has to do is take one look at OU's Ryan Broyles, and the decision should be a pretty easy decision to make.

That's nearly the same schedule we have this year. Except A&M will be a little easier, TCU will be tougher, USM/UCF/Tulsa could all be toss ups. If we are truly recruiting the way we think we are, I don't see why we can't go 7-5 again. I really think that a lot of our seniors might have been overrated, hate to say it but that O-Line was lauded and was completely underwhelming.

Less than 6 wins next year does not make sense unless there is something worse going on at the QB situation than we know about such as KP transferring or injury career ending and CP being a complete dud like Kaiser appears to be. We have a strong receiver group and Line is returning. D should be fine.
Tulsa and UH will have new QBs. UCF's QB is beatable as we proved this year and he may not even be starting next year. Don't know much about USM. Baylor's backup did a great job vs tech and he will be the starter if RG3 graduates, but the baylor-tech game relied a lot on the senior RB, and not sure who they have to replace the RB.

Baylor's backup QB can even throw 40 yard TD passes down the field. TCU will be really good next year. We lose to TCU 9 times out of 10 in 2011. (As Gary Patterson would say.)
This could get ugly.

The Baylor backup QB didn't look too shabby against Tech. I would say that Baylor game is going to be extremely challenging with a new oline and new starters on the d-line.
We are going to graduate a lot of players this season. This team was a good quarterback away from being something special. We are definitely going to see an impact of loosing some of these guys.
I would say non-conference 1-3
In conference, I think Memphis, UTEP, Tulane, Rice are wins over bad teams, I agree with you.
SOuthern Miss, UCF, Tulsa, Houston - we win one of those four, probably over Houston who loses a ton of really important players from that team.
6-6.

Was hoping TCU had to grind it out against a few upper tier Big12 schools before playing us, but they currently have Virginia the week before us and Grambling two weeks before Virginia.

What's this C-USA schedule you speak of? I thought our 2012 conference schedule was going to look something like this:
at Boise - loss
Louisville - toss up
at Cincinnati - loss
SDSU - toss up
at UCF - toss up
Houston - loss
at UConn - loss
Rutgers - toss up

June means: 0 returning starters on the O line.
Having to replace both starting D ends.
Questions at QB, to say the least.
Major holes in secondary.
Special teams....

I believe we will have gilbert next year, but maybe he has to have one year to stay injured and return for 2013 which is far worst (all big 12 OCC and BE teams ICC). I think A&M will keep us because they will need all the "sure" wins they can get in the SEC. Its really stupid of Jones to say that publicly. He should tell SO and all that so they can be prepared. I think 7-5 should be the benchmark and SO should be pressuring that. We apparently had great recruiting years, so I dont see the problem. JJ needs to instill confidence and the freaking local community better be there when A&M and TCU shows up. Without McDermott, and if KP with confidence is back, we should have the potential 11-1, 10-2.
