Houston, Southern Mississippi, Tulsa, Southern Methodist and Marshall are eligible from Conference USA. Unbeaten Houston will likely land a spot in the BCS if it beats Southern Mississippi in Saturday's title game. Starr said a team from the Big 12 Conference could factor into the equation.
"We're looking at SMU because they're local, and Houston if it would fall in the championship game," Starr said. "They would be 11-1 and a highly ranked team. Very attractive candidate for us."
the TicketCity Bowl -- based in Dallas -- is high on the Boilermakers.
For coach Danny Hope's team to make an appearance in the Jan. 2 game, the Big Ten likely would have to send an at-large team to the Bowl Championship Series along with the conference champion.
"It's safe to say they're the frontrunner if they do move two to the BCS," TicketCity President and CEO Tom Starr said of the Boilermakers.
"You look at which teams have you not had, which teams are on the rise, therefore the team is excited, the coach is excited and the fans are excited," Starr said of the process of trying to seperate teams. "Purdue fills that bill for us."
