That wasn't SMU's fault. That was on June Jones' p-poor half-a-season.
He basically mailed it in after UCF. Notably, that was the week one of his players wrote the campus paper [deleted] about attendance. You'll never convince me that didn't happen without Jones' approval.
I smelled a rat two years ago. Hello, Rat.

So the poor attendance against UCF after beating TCU was June's fault? He literally called alums and told them not to come right? C'mon man. I'm sure one of the main reasons he left was because SMU alums are too snooty and high maintenance and wouldn't fill the stands. They would much rather be in the boarded up/golf clap club.

The reasons were well documented yesterday and attendance had very little effect.
Especially for a guy that did nothing to promote the team or university...
On to the next guy...

we need to stop making excuses why we can't expect poor ole SMU to fill up a 32,000 seat stadium and start actually doing something to change it. SMU has 50% lower attendance than the NEXT lowest team in the Big East. I'm tired of the excuses-I want to see a Plan NOW

Attendance after thanksgiving is not a problem unique to SMU. There is a reason Texas/Texas A&M was that weekend every year. Anybody think either school would get same attendance if they were playing Iowa State? My buddies that went to either school wouldn't have gone to those post-thanksgiving games while they were in college unless they were big games.
Honestly, the attendance at the Rice game was better than I expected.

Yes, we need to move the TCU game to that weekend!

I imagine it's pretty disappointing to a head coach who takes a school to its first bowl game in 20+ years - puts 3 winning seasons back to back to back - going into the final game of the season - senior day - team is bowl eligible for the 3rd consecutive year and you come out of the tunnel with your team and there are barely 10,000 (14,000+ published, I know) people to see you play. There are a multitude of reasons and excuses for that - but the fact remains......
I will always give credit to the loyal fans (old and new) and the Mustang Band - but somethin's gotta give here before too long.

Agree. The plan for the past 20 years appears to be variations of (I) give tickets to community groups that won't use them; or (ii) wait and hope winning will solve the problem by itself. Unfortunately, (ii) seems to be hampered by the desire to keep SMU football a secret.

How many games did we lose going into that game? and common - Rice at 11 AM. Who wants to watch rice on a nice day much less on a miserable day at 11 AM on Thanksgiving weekend. We have attendance problems, but this one is different.

I imagine the "finalist" for the SMU football job is going to want to see a Plan, too - and see it
before he signs the bottom line -
IF he is smart.
