Everyone keeps talking about attendance

Every article keeps citing June getting fed up with our attendance. We play in a mid-tier conference against a ton of schools that no one outside of ecstatic smu football fans could possible care about. What casual fan cares about seeing us play Rice over thanksgiving with no impact on our season at all? That's just the way it is. You never hear complaints about TCU having an attendance problem. How many people were they bringing in against their WAC/MWC opponents in years where they were near .500? I can't imagine their situation was much better. I'm tired of hearing about our weak attendance. It is the product of a largely apathetic fan base due to decades of irrelevance. It will get better. June is a mercenary. He was never a true mustang and never really cared about this place as evidence by his eagerness to bail so quickly on this thing. I wish him nothing but pure failure in Arizona.
GO MUSTANGS

He should be frustrated with the school's refusal to market its sports teams, and so should the rest of us. It's ridiculous. That said, he knew about that going into the job.

He should have done some work on his own...
What did JJ do to market the team and city?
Who cares?

Honestly...when Cincy comes to town, do you think more people will show up? Rutgers? UCONN? NO.
Boise is the only school I see bringing a packed house

Eventually yes I do think more people will show up. We've had 3 decent years in the last 25? We have a lot of work left to do. Give the thing some time before you quit on it.

I'm not quitting...I've been to ever home game the last 3 yrs plus 2-3 away games every year. I'm just being realistic that our fan base will not show up just because we're going to the Big East.

And others of us are tired of pointing out that smaller TCU has always had better attendance than bigger SMU at comparable periods of their program.
We bottomed out 15,000. TCU at about 20,000-22,000
We climbed to 22,000. TCU was at about 26-28,000
We have about 8,000 or so season tickets. TCU has about 22,000+
TCU never got down to 5,000 season tickets like we did. TCU sold out every seat in the House-SMU has never sold anywhere close to 32,000 paid in many decades going back to the 60s especially when are talking about the fans actually being TCU fans not UT, Tech and A&M fans.
Stop making excuses for our pathetic fan base. If a plan is not instituted to get our own family, alumni and friends into the stadium it is the main limitation on how high this program can climb.

we have a smaller undergraduate population my smug friend. which is where a lot of the fans/enthusiasm is generated. not a bunch of law students.

These people are critical too... they are part of the base we need to market to. If I weren't in the Mustang Club and a law school grad, I'd never hear a d@mned thing about the games.
