RE: BIG EAST Announcement

Today is truly one of the most exciting days in the history of SMU Athletics. The Mustangs are back and we could not have done it without your support!

At 4 p.m. CT this afternoon, the BIG EAST will announce the addition of SMU, Houston, UCF, Boise State and San Diego State to its membership. All three current Conference USA members will join the BIG EAST membership on July 1, 2013, as all-sport members. Boise State and San Diego State will also join at that time, but only as football-only members.

The announcement will be by teleconference and a press release will be posted on SMUMustangs.com. If you wish to listen, the call will be streamed at http://bigeast.org/BIGEASTTV/LiveEventsSchedule.aspx.

We will also post additional information as well as a Q&A section on our website. If you have any additional questions, please contact my office or the Athletics P.R. Office.

This is a monumental achievement for our program and I thank all of you who have helped bring it about.

Thank the Circle of Champions before you thank June. As well as many people who supported this program financially even during the darkest days. Special thanks is owed to those who paid for 5 years worth of season tickets in advance for Ownby Stadium in the 80s while we were still serving a death sentence. That seed money is often forgotten, but it went a long way toward keeping the program alive during the Pye years when the powers that be wanted it to die and go away.

June had nothing to do with us getting to the big east. It was the Circle of Champions who made an effort to change the school's commitment to athletics. Would have had the same results with or without that dumb Hawaiian. Stop giving him credit. Thank the CoC, Orsini and Turner for their hard work.

That's ridiculous. Hate Jones if you must but without him there wouldn't be a Circle of Champions and we would not be in dicussions for a BCS conference.

I just replied to the message thanking him and wishing us all success in the new conference. Maybe some more of us might like to do the same.

There was a circle of champions before there was June jones. They got jones, not the other way around. They put up the money to find the best coach we could, and June was the only one who took it. He was the third choice, at best. June turned the ship around, and we should be thankful for that, but he wasn't the only one who could do it, and he isn't the only one who can take us forward from here. He was here because we have alumni who care enough to spend their hard earned money on improving this program. They didn't just show up because orsini said June is coming.

Wrong, without SO there would be no CoC. Who exactly do you think was willing to pay Paul Johnson.

Just sent him a reply thank you as well. Great idea; hope others Pony Up and do the same.
