Was I the only one a little bit concerned that the Big East didn't do a better job of locking down the new schools? I mean, any of the schools can walk between now and July 2013 (with financial penalties). ESPN has all the time in the world to kill this deal. I can't believe there wasn't a way to lock them in for the 27 months (past July 2013).
Yes, SMU and Houston could walk if the Big 12 wanted to bring more of the SWC back together, but it would be difficult for these schools to commit to a $5 million penalty clause before they even concluded their C-USA responsibilities.

Yeah, well the Big 12 isn't calling us anytime soon. Although if they did, I think we'd have $5m on DeLoss' whoops I mean the Big 12's doorstep the next day

This is SMU. There's probably $5 million in the couch cushions at Hughes-Trigg.

Can't wait for an SMU-Georgetown matchup. The last time these 2 met was when a Patrick Ewing led Georgetown team won the NCAA hoops title. SMU had Jon Koncack, Larry Davis, Carl Wright, and Butch Moore. It was before the shot clock, and was some god-awful score like 42-39. I think it was the closest game G-Town had the entire tournament.

What a great game that Georgetown game was, yep something like 38-37 and went down to free throws at the end - Patrick Ewing etc. their Nat Championship year. One of our biggest heartbreakers of all time.

The new members of the BE are very likely to remain committed, both short and long term. Boise State is not attractive to PAC 12 or Big 12, Houston/SMU won't be pulled into Big 12 for obvious reasons, SD State is not gonig to PAC 12 and UCF will forever be matched with USF outside SEC or ACC.
This marriage is one of convenience. The bigger concern might be the current FB members, not the new ones. Despite some criticisim for current BE Comissioner, John Marinatto, he was dealt a bad hand when Syracuse, Pitt and WVA took a walk. The new five, especially Boise State, actually raised the competitive profile.
