Great finish at Ford

Southlake Carroll rallied from 24-14 down with 2 TDs in the final 1:07 to win that 5A Division I state semfinal game, 28-24. Guess they got an onside to set up the second TD.

Then somebody told me a Fox -- no, not June -- ran onto the field during the game.

Tough loss for the Skyline kids. Great season for both squads.

Yeah, a buddy of mine just called and said the fox was running through the stands in the first quarter, left the stadium, then came back in and onto the field during Carroll's winning touchdown.
As far as the game, that's typical Carroll luck. How'd the on-side kick look? I hear it looked like it didn't go ten yards.

I don't know anything about it other than what I was told.

Wild animals around Ford? Yep, it's the fitting end to a bizarre week on The Hilltop.

As Hill was spinning out of tackles down the east sideline on his touchdown run and neared the north end zone, the fox appeared out of nowhere and ran in opposite direction between hashmarks on the field. (Perspective: The fox ran from the closed horseshoe side to the open side.)

The fox got to the retaining wall on south side and was seen on the grassy knoll running out the stadium as Carroll celebrated its touchdown.

I asked about "Sheldon's lights.". Guess what? They didn't use them. High school coaches don't make excuses, unlike others that we know.

Exactly. Those lights aren't on for the high school games. What a joke.

I think they have to be rewired. They will be made permanent at some point.

Our neighbor is local coach who went to Ford to scout the game for Madison if Madison had gotten by Fort Bend Hightower in the Alamodome. He said in 20 years of coaching worse officiated playoff game he has ever seen. He said not just the on-side kick was wrong, but there were couple of intereference calls not even close. He also said what upset him and the other 2 coaches with him was twice the Skyline coach tried to get timeout from the referees in the game and for some reason it was not granted.

He did think Ford was great stadium and was complimentary of our campus, and said it was too bad our coaches didn't even look at San Antonio kids because some of them would love it there.

By the way Madison's coach JIm Streety suspended 2 of his best defensive players for this game (including one of his leading tacklers) for an incident and obviously took some heat for doing so the week of semi-final playoff game. Good to know some still believe in teaching the kids life lessons, that football game is not above everything else, and that you do the right thing even when it is hard to do so. Hats off to Streety for doing so, I doubt very many other Texas High School coaches would have done the same.
