If Klemm is, in fact, one foot out the door, I think we seriously need to think about throwing whatever we can at Larry Porter. He was hired at Memphis for his stellar recruiting ability at LSU. It doesn't appear that he has landed anywhere as of yet.

That would actually be an outstanding hire, IMO.
Porter is a heck of a recruiter - two time National Recruiter of the Year - and was beating SEC teams for kids even while doing a bad job as a HC. A solid running backs coach with LSU, and he was known to do things the right way off the field at Memphis. The fact that he was a HC can only make him more valuable.
He has to have a few ties to Texas coming from LSU, for those of you who want to start making better inroads in the state. This would absolutely be a case of 'hiring a better coach to replace them.'

Maybe we should target someone with NFL experience, in case some HS players are swayed by that.
Couldn't hurt, anyway.

Would be a hell of a get though he'll probably end up back in the SEC.

Worth going after, but he was a star recruiter in the SEC. Recruited a great RB core at LSU. Will probably return to an SEC school, but would be a heck of a steal for SMU. We need multiple guys of Klemm's caliber.
See that Gus Malzahn has become the HC at Ark state for ~850k a year. Was making 1.3mil at Auburn as OC. Guess he wants to warm up as a HC so he doesn't burnout quickly. He would be well worth making a run at in a year or two as soon as June leaves/gets the boot.
