TCU: We hear that Rusty Burns will likely move into the quarterbacks / co-offensive coordinator role full time and the open slot will be wide receivers.

I liked Rusty when he was our offensive coordinator, just didn't have much offensive talent.

Would love to see our current players line up in an offensive scheme that wasn't designed by Mickey Mouse.

Offensive talent certainly wasn't the problem in 06 and 07. If we'd have had an Average C-
USA defense in those years, Bennett and Rusty would still be here today.

Fun Fact of the Day:

SMU in 2007 under Phil Bennett who finished 1-11 averaged 3 points more per game in scoring than SMU in 2010 and 2011 under June Jones in 7-5 regular seasons

no question, that 2007 offense with Willis was much more dangerous than our offense this year with McD. Not even close.

I rewatched some of the Houston game this week. The offense killed us. First possession of the game we got the ball to the UH 45 or so, 3rd and 3. What do we do? try to get 15 yards on a low percentage pass and McD overthrows the receiver by easily 10 yards. Punt. Meanwhile the defense looked good against Keenum but kept giving up first downs after putting UH in 3rd and long situations.

it was even more frustrating to rewatch that game because you can just see how we could have beaten UH. really think Padron would have changed the dynamic and made us a much better team late in the season, especially when the Oline had lapses.

So the defensive guru had a better offense and the offensive guru had a better defense.

not only that, but that 07 team came out of the chute fast almost every game. Seems like there were several occasions we were in the high 20's or 30s by early to mid third quarter. Which is when the defensive meltdown began.

AND the last two seasons were played against some of the worst rated college defenses in the country. if you can't take advantage of that with ANY QB, then what good is this offense anyway?

Weren't there a couple 50+ point games against lower tier schools that skew that number upward.

We played Northwest State this year didn't we? I don't remember SMU ever playing more than one FBS school in any season, so its a push as far at that goes.

Rust Burns is a great man on and off the field. Too bad Bennett kept making him run toss sweeps on the goal line.

I would have preferred him not flirting with ladies in the stands during the game, especially when the offense was on the field. But I had no real problems with his offense.

That is a great fact...showing that a toddler could come up with a better offense than the Run and Shoot which defenses learned to stop in the mid 90s..but our surf lovin dude of a coach missed all those memos...

Oh well.
