Iowa State's Rhoads might be No. 1 candidate

Friday, December 16, 2011

By Paul Zeise, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Pitt will not use a search firm to help identify candidates as it begins the hunt for a football coach to replace Todd Graham, and that is a sign the university already has a short list of candidates.

In fact, according to sources, the school already is reaching out to candidates, including Ohio State defensive coordinator Luke Fickell, who served as the interim coach of the Buckeyes this season, Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads, Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops, Wisconsin offensive coordinator Paul Chryst, Northern Illinois coach Dave Doeren and former Illinois and Florida coach Ron Zook.

I thought I had read somewhere that Rhoads had taken his name out of the hat. But anyway it says that he just signed a new contract with Iowa State today.

Would be a lateral move at best. Read that he's from the Iowa/Midwest area and that his mother passed away recently. Father still alive, so I don't see him taking the job.

Rhoads just signed a 10 YEAR $21 million extension at Iowa St. He's not going anywhere.
