So, I've been watching your scores for 3 years and the SMU comeback was not limited to one good senior class, it does roll on to varying degrees of success. But then I joined Ponyfans.com.... I know much more about SMU football than Doak Walker and the Pony Express and the death penalty now thanks to you guys but. Being a guy from off of the hilltop what's old seems pretty prevalent and what's new seems weird and forced, you have a shetland pony that would just as soon kick me to death as let me feed him a sugar cube, but you also have 2 former gorgeous wild beasts that have been broken, bridled, castrated and now bow to mere mortal men? Which were given to you by THEEEE Oklahoma State boosters? I thought when you said June Jones and the Geldings, that you were talking about the second string or the practice squad. I never knew about Liberty and Justice...
The fight song well, I'm not gonna bag on you but WHY do so many of you hate your Marching Band? The Pony Battle Cry is pretty cool I'm sure they can do other stuff. Peruna? well I know that one by another name from when I was say well a colt....
Then most of you hate the coach and I don't blame you but as soon as the word that he may leave comes up, here comes the warpath, I gotta admit I followed right along and I do think his behavior was poor, especially since I heard he considered leaving SMU for freaking Maryland last year, Maryland, REALLY.
SMU who are you? Are you the new, the old or somewhere in between? because you are pretty freaking hard to follow for a new fan like me. To me the Old is better but That would mean Blue Jerseys and I guess that ain't where it's at on the hilltop nowadays?

Don't bother, I'll be in the North Arabian Sea next Football season. I appreciate the thought though.

I'd love to go to a game. I love football. And if you ever happen to see a guy wearing a bunch of Michigan colors to Ford, it's probably me. I tend to get sent places un-announced often in my line of work. REALLY hoping to hit a Michigan MSU game in the next few though... OR MAYBE the Ohio Game... I mean I KNOW who Michigan is and I know who Ohio State is.. You guys baffle me a little bit though. Seems like you baffle you too though..

The main issue is we don't have a collective identity. There are the old school guys, the new kids like me, and the "lost generation"

There in lies part of the problem. Three generations of Mustang fans and not a real common bond as far as athletic support goes.

part of that though is really Three different "phases" of Mustang football. not to linger on the DP, but it, and the fallout from it has done that.
for a long time, there wasn't any athletics to support.

That is what I was trying to say, but I think you worded it better.

So here's who we are. We are an exclusive by nature, smallish private university with political clout all out of proportion to its size. We have a beautiful, Ivy-leagueish campus and a whitebread, spoiled-by-daddy student body.
We had an interesting history as a very good, nationally followed team for our first forty years of existence, then for the next thirty years were to the prestigious Southwest Conference by and large what Vandy is to the SEC. Then one day we got fed up with that and decided to go a little wild. And, boy, did we.
Post DP, and after being knocked down a rung or two in conference affiliation, we have in the last thirty years sucked worse than almost any team in all of college football.
In comes June Jones -- and back comes a degree of respectability on the field and, now, in our conference affliation.
Should be interesting to see how all this plays out.
