Kaiser Konundrum*

I have wondered all year why Kaiser was not used at least once in an instance that would have been appropriate. Either the Tulsa beating, or late in the Tulane game, or just as a breather for a beaten up JJM. Of course the experts on ponyfans just say he is no good, because, of course, we all know better than people that are on the practice field with him daily.
Here is my thought. Not knowing the exact time line of his mono, is it possible that by sitting out this year after being sick last year, with good medical records documenting his illness, that he could be a candidate for a medical hardship year after his 5th year based on his year lost to mono? This would make sense to me.
I really want to believe there was some basis for not at least giving him a shot when JJM was beaten up. At least one series in one game.
Again, I do not remember his time line on the illness but if it did incapacitate him for his first year then he should have a 6th year allowed.
* I really do know the proper spelling of conundrum.

June is extremely unpredictable. McDermott got all of 3-4 snaps in 2010.

June swung and missed, and he won't play QB here.

I just wonder if anybody can say "Kaiser Konundrum" 4 consecutive times without missing up?

June said that he was NFL caliber on signing day a couple of years ago. It's looking more and more like June and Morrison can't evaluate QB's anymore. Seems odd that so called "QB Gurus" haven't even developed a QB who can play at the NFL level......

Didn't he have bad mono last year and just this mid-season got his strength back?

It is hard to judge a kid after a significant illness has delayed his/her development. mrydel has an intriguing idea. As we know, a team can never have enough good QBs. Had Kaiser had a blown knee instead of a serious infection, none of us would be expecting him to be NFL caliber at this point. Mono isn’t like a cold or the flu with a relatively short acute phase. Mono can last up to 4 weeks with acute symptoms and then perhaps weeks of feeling fatigue. And it is hard to perform at peak athletic capabilities under those conditions. So in some ways, Mono infection can be as prolonging to a players development as a serious joint injury.
Kaiser may not be the answer this moment but that doesn't mean his career is over.

Come on, so you say that KP is no good? He has a lot of SMU records. BLM is FCS All-American.

Maybe he's SOOO ready for the NFL that JJ thinks it wouldn't be fair or even sportmanslike to unleash his awesome talents against inferior college competition.
Just a thought.

So you're saying that he can evaluate QB-talent but just cannot develop it (while others can).

Remember our high school basketball star came down with mono the first week of hoops practice. He couldn't play until February about 3 months. Even then, he was at about 1/2 speed. Bad news it was his senior year. He was a top college prospect his junior year, then his senior year got mono ended up going Division II where he was an All American.

If you are asking me or directing that at me, I would say that you can not conclude that as he has had two QBs about a year and a half as FR/SO (and not RS) with McD with one years experience as a transfer. Now next season, if Kaiser does not play you can say he did not develop or was a bust or is just behind better talent. Too many details are involved to conclude that JJ etc can not evaluate or develop. Any assertion to that otherwise is just a load.

You pointed out that BLM was an All-American as a counter-argument to the idea that June can't evaluate talent, which is interesting because June absolutely wanted BLM as his starter as a freshman (so much so that he demoted a current record breaking upper classmen) and had two off-seasons and one-and-a-half seasons to groom him but completely abandoned him after his injury. The same could be true for Kyle, who was a "diamond-in-the-rough" recruit and a record-breaker himself; we will see. JJ McD was an "NFL-quality" transfer. If you believe June can ID talent and you believe June when he says he got the type of players that he wanted, then why are we in year 5 with a huge question mark at QB? Simplest answer is...
