look at the weather today!

well i hope you're happy....

all you folks that screamed...

"oh no lets not do the Armed Forces Bowl...
we and the players all wanna go
somewhere exciting and exotic
the players deserve a big nice trip...blah blah
!"

so.....instead of us all being on the Blvd today and at least 10 thousand SMU
Fans about to march into a sold out Ford Stadium on a beautiful day in Dallas...

we await the exotic, exciting Birmingham, Alabama.
where maybe if we are lucky 1000 SMU fans will sit
in a mammoth empty decrepit stadium in no telling what kind of weather.

jezzzzzzzzzzzzzz

i suppose we make more money at compass bowl?

I have zero confidence in our ability to beat Pitt, but we'd have been blown out by BYU.

Assuming that if we were not in the Compass Bowl, another CUSA team would be (in your scenario).

CUSA splits bowl revenue. No money difference.

Sorry, I take full responsibility for us not going to the Armed Services Bowl. I apologize that we are not playing on a weekday bowl game at 11 AM that no one watches. Next year, I will personally lobby that we go to this bowl whether the players want to go to or not, no matter what our record. Maybe that will make amends.

It is too bad June Jones listened to me and let that influence his decision on which bowl to attend. He really should be more independent of us fans and not let us dictate to him and the team. And Steve Orsini, he should not have taken my phone call on which game to attend. I won't even mention the pressure I put on President Turner to insure we did not go to this bowl or the calls to the bowl representatives, tv executives, and NCAA officials. Next year I will stay out of it.

Do you really believe that what anyone posted on here is the reason we did not go to the Armed Forces Bowl? That is what it sounds like from the second and third lines of your posts, but do you really think anyone here caused it?

It would have been nice for SMU to play at Ford today.
I would have been there for sure with a pretty large group (maybe 16 of us).
Instead I have to be somewhere else in January.
I hope I can see our bowl online while I'm out of the country.
I'll have someone record our bowl and other bowls while I'm gone.

Go SMU!
Beat Pitt!

Playing Pitt in a January bowl is much better for the program than playing today when everyone is at work anyway.

I would rather play the most high profile opponent in a bowl that we can.

IPP I think pretty much all of our fans wanted us to go to AFB or TCB. The only ones not interested in staying in Dallas were the players. My hope is that they are more concerned with the opponent than location as the purpose is to win the game. However, I don't blame the players for wanting a destination bowl as it is a free trip for them. Based on our inability to travel as a fan-base SMU should lobby to play in Texas, Hawaii, or Liberty/BCS bowls given that we earn the right. Nonetheless, our players need to be motivated regardless of where the game is played. Logically, it just makes more sense for our non-travelling fan base to stay close in order to increase attendance.

PS I am very jealous of TU and BYU as they got much better weather than we did last year!

Wuba is a coachless Pitt really higher profile than BYU?
Does Pitt draw as well as BYU?
I am really not sure?
