Its looks like the key to get fans in the stands is to invite other teams cause no problem seems to like watching ours. The stadijum looks pretty good with people there

Meh, looked pretty good last year. Looked pretty good against TCU, Baylor, TTU, etc. Rice, UCF, Northwestern St., not so much. I swear I see a pattern.

Great point, except for it being completely wrong. Last year's AFB was oversold. This year's AFB looks to be 3/4 full.

This was true even of the "Mustang Mania" teams of the early 80's.

When we played Tulane, Rice - 20K attended. Not good (for one of the nation's best teams), but better than we have today.

It was those games against Texas, A&M, and Arkansas (before they left) that inflated the attendance statistics. Even regional games against mediocre opponents (Baylor and TCU) helped, just as they do today.

Regional games are important. But we can't FORCE our way into a regional conference. All we can do for now is win CUSA, then the Big East.

True the game was sold out last year, 36,000 attended if I remember but then explain to me what happened this year. The numbers are telling me the other programs are traveling to our stadium more then the SMU faithful. Its the same agreument, the fanbase doesn't care about the program. Nobody cares about the program yet

Issue is the size of the fan base...small private colleges don't have large fanbases. If you look at the most successful small private urban schools - Miami(52.6k), BC(38.4k),TCU (42.5k), Stanford (40k) They have better conferences with rivals, large local alumni (most alumni stay), and a few major opponents at home such as TCU (Oregon St - 46k, Baylor - 47, & BYU - 40k), Miami - FSU and BC - ND 45k. SMU needs regional teams with local interest (A&M, Baylor, TCU) and/or national programs (ND, BYU, Navy) to help bring in fans. It seems to be somewhat successful with other programs with similar makeups. The expectation for SMU is not 50k but closer to 30-35k which would fill Ford Stadium. With TCU and A&M next season the average attendance will be much higher than this past season.

our new conference affiliation is not going to help; need to be sure to keep scheduling games with TCU, Baylor, any former SWC mate we can get and even UNT to bolster attendance

It's going to be hard no matter what. We just got to bowl games after 25 years of nothing. If we can pull 9-3 season then it will make it quicker, but the DP to small private school is devastating. If we keep winning eventually we will recover a lost generation. Instituting traditions and yells before a kickoff can help atmosphere and should be looked into.
