- SMU goes to their second bowl game in a row. Unfortunately it was a pathetic showing at Ford Stadium against Army, of course in our new black jersey. (technically this was 2010, December 30th but eh close enough to 2011)

- Conference realignment drama saw SMU's arch-rival TCU futher the gap between the schools as they received a Big XII invitation.

- SMU's chance to shine in the national spot light was quickly dampened by two early INTS as A&M throttled SMU in College Station.

- SMU capped a 4 game win streak by beating TCU in Ft. Worth in Overtime after almost giving up a 16-17 point lead in the 4th quarter.

- SMU received Top 25 votes as they beat last year's C-USA champion in a very convincing fashion. 5-1 record.

- During this all-time high, SMU is rumored to be going to the Big East alongside Houston, UCF, Navy, Air Force, Boise State.

- SMU loses to USM and so begins the spiral to a 7-5 season, effectively going 2-4 in the last 6 games.

- SMU was all over the headlines as coach June Jones apparently had accepted an offer from ASU, conveniently during the week of major campus recruiting trips.

- June Jones comes back to SMU with his tail between his legs as Adrian Klemm leaves for UCLA.

- Top 2012/2013 recruits decommit from the program

It was a hell of a year, I'm sure I missed plenty. But once all is said and done, the jump to the Big East and the TCU victory probably give the year an overall positive orientation. If I was rating this year out of 10, I'd give it a solid 7. Without the Big East invite though, I would be very disheartened. Maybe I say that because of the proximity of the recruiting news.

freakin' rollercoaster.

TCU win was the peak for me followed by Big East.
5-1 was short lived but felt good. Train wreck followed by June departure ruined it.

Bowls are expected now which is great.

Football season - 6

Overall success! Not where we want to be but much better than where we were.

I'll hold off on rating the 2011 season until after the bowl game. A win will give us positive momentum for next year to offset what has transpired over the last couple of months. A loss will be hugely disappointing. The BE invitation was huge for the season but the team showed no conviction during the second half of the season.

A 7?

A 10 is a national championship, right? A conference championship and a BCS bowl win is a 9.

A mid-tier bowl, no conference championship (not even a loss) maybe is a 5 to me. Big East may bring it up to a 6, but JJ rumors and the loss of Klemm knocked it back to a 5.5.

It will require a solid bowl win to get back to a 6.

This year is at least a 7 for the Big East invite alone.
It's easy to get mired in the day to day stuff, but an invite to an AQ conference with a national profile will change the athletic program in ways we can't even imagine yet.

5 all because of TCU and Big East. The collapse of what would have been an amazing season blew it down 3 points and 2 points for Jones flirting with ASU and losing some big time recruits.

Winning the bowl game against Pitt would be nice especially getting Big East support to their backstabbing member. However I just dont think its going to move mountains for our recruiting season or fan base (lack thereof)
