Conference Loyalty??

Watching the Cinci bowl game against Vandy, I got to thinking about Conference Loyalty/Hatred. As a SMU fan, should you root for/against teams in their conference (past and future conferences).

I hate the Big Ten, Pac 10, and Notre Dame. During the Rose Bowl, I root for food poisoning.

Since I have been irate at SMU (and other smaller schools) getting f'd by the state schools in everything from rankings (how about that 82 Nat'l Championship given to Perv State Univ), I feel some need to root for CUSA teams when they play "big" conference opponents.

Big East: living in CT, I have a natural hatred for most of the Big East teams. Nevertheless, I feel it is in SMU's best interests for Big East teams to do well in non-conference play.

Agreed. I typically root against the big schools especially Texas, PAC schools, etc. As much as most people in the country hate New England people; we have to root for them since it will be our conference and they are the weaker of the AQ conferences. Also they are against ESPN, which is a plus. There is no hurt in supporting CUSA, so long as it doesnt hurt us. Im hoping we can pull a perfect conference season.

Going to the TC bowl tomorrow, wearing my red SMU gear and rooting for the Cougs. This will be something new and different. Later this week at the Compass to see the Ponies beat Pitt.

I can't root for ut.....ever. I don't have a problem cheering for conference mates as long as it's in our best interest. W

I'm with you as far as tu is concerned. Living only about 40 miles from the tu campus it is hard. I often have to bite my tongue there are so many orange people around here. One time I had a chance to have a conversation with Darrel Royal but decided I'd better keep my mouth shut. I always go for whomever is playing tu.

Hopefully we will develop some sort of a conference rivalry with Houston once we are in the BE and possibly make it the game for the mayors cup when we ditch Rice.

I've been rooting for the ink on the contracts to dry that SMU, UCF, Houston, Boise St, San Diego St signed to become Big East schools

I have a rule that I go by...I root for Conference teams first, Texas teams second and whoever is the underdog third.

When bowl season comes around, you root for your conference mates, first despite your natural hatred for them. There are exceptions. Like UT. When we were in the SWC with UT, I couldn't bring myself to root for UT, just like I could never warm up to the Dallas Cowboys or the Baltimore Orioles or anything from Philly. I'm sure there will be a BE team that we will have trouble liking (Houston comes to mind). This year, I have been pulling for CUSA teams since that is our current conference and wins and losses by CUSA reflect on us. For example, Tulsa losing to BYU was a heartbreaker.

IMO- we need to support our new conference mates. The better they do the better our new conference will look. I also find it very hard to root for any of the old SWC teams- especially the whorens and f-aggies.

GO PONIES!!!

If we beat Pitt, will this be our third win over a BCS team since we beat Kansas to open Ford?
