By allowing 6 points, SMU has allowed the fewest thus far. It would only be style points if that held up.

But it would be cool if that was thrown in.

2009 Hawaii Bowl- 10 points allowed versus Nevada
2010 Armed Forces Bowl- 9 points allowed versus Army
2012 BBVA Compass Bowl- 6 points allowed versus Pitt

Mason continues to prove he's our most valuable coach.

Also, when UCLA went to a bowl this year , SMU was no longer the only team with a losing record to go to a bowl (1963 Sun Bowl 4-6 record).

so if we can just have 3 or 4 weeks to prepare for every opponent, maybe our D would be tops in the country?

Doubt it (see our last 4 openers which we had months to prepare for).

Seems like UNT or some other Sun Belt champion had a losing record as well when they went to the N.O. Bowl a few years back. But I could be wrong.

You can add 6-7 Georgia Tech to the list. As goldenstang said, North Texas was 5-6 in 2001 going into their bowl game, which they lost to finish 5-7.

Why did we end up in the Sun Bowl that year? It looks like we didn't even win or come close to winning the SWC. 4-7 overall, 2-5 in SWC play and 6th in the SWC.

Re: Sun Bowl, I was there and SMU was because we beat then #1 Navy with Roger Staubach (Heisman) in the Cotton Bowl that year. The year of John Roddick, super star. Kudos to teammate Tommy Cauraghn (sp) for knocking down Staubach's pass in the end zone to end the game.
