And getting JP has really created a boom in our recruiting.

Is JP overrated? I know is hasn't been here that long, but there seemed to be a pretty immediate reaction from our recruits when Klemm left.

I guess I was a little bit naive in thinking JP's recruits would follow him.

I've never heard of these two players.

fiji- you and I both. I had hoped that JP would come in and have sort of a 'klemm' effect and we would see at least a couple of high quality players jump on the SMU bandwagon. Disappointing so far.

My only concern with JP is how supportive is really going to be of SMU -- in other words, does he REALLY believe in this program and will sell it hard as THE place to be? His only memories of SMU is that of a doormat (played with Andre Ware and then coached with them while they routinely whipped us) and no matter whose writing the checks, those memories are etched in your psyche and hard to get over.

Now, I know that interview he did was mostly coachspeak for a UH audience, but he didn't say "I'm really excited to get over there, resurrect that program, and develop more record breakers" it was more like "I'm happy to work with JJ and see if we can't win some games over there". Hmmm.

I don't see anything wrong with his comments the guy is ambitious and wants to be a HC (interviewed for the FAU and UH openings), I don't expect him to be here long.

I thought Phillips would be named the HC when Sumlin left for A&M

I think the 'deep down' loyalty question is very valid. What if he became head coach here- where would his true loyalties lie? It will be interesting to see if he brings us any recruits before signing day or not. That might be a very valid indication of his 'belief' in our program and our university.

I hadn't heard that trevon was unhappy....in fact, he was on lsu's roster. I don't remember hearing that he was considering UH when he was in HS. SMU coaches need to start looking at this school. My son has helped the OC for 2 years and has worn SMU stuff many times during those 2 years.

Just read a little on lsu's board...some say they heard he was dismissed b/c of violating team rules and /or grades while some said he left in good standing. Imagine not getting the real truth on a fan board! Oh well, good luck to him.
