First Bryan MCann, then Sterling Moore, and now Richard Crawford is getting high marks in early workouts. Pretty soon we may have to start giving you some credit for doing a good job. Congratulations coach, and thanks for your hard work.

And then there's his recruiting problem...

But the 2012 recruiting season bit the dust in 2012 anyway the weekend of Dec. 3 -- we're now seeing the fallout from it.

Seems to be a pretty good technical coach. Just needs to recruit better. But then all of these coaches do.

Odum has recruited well the last couple years, this has been a bad year though only getting Roundtree.

Seriously? He has been the primary recruiter for all of the secondary players over the last few years. He is doing just fine.

All coaching staffs in America are divided up into groups. You have people who go out and do leg work on the ground, and you have other coaches that are "closers". The "closers" do more of the evaluation work than the folks flying around. They all work, they just do different types of work.

Odum got Sterling Moore and Richard Crawford, among others. I'll take that kind of recruiting any day.

Someone on here raised the idea that if Coach Mason had taken the head coaching job at Fresno State, Coach Odum might be a candidate to replace him as defensive coordinator. I didn't realize he had that kind of clout and respect, but when you think about it, he has done a hell of a job.

That's a rosy view of our staff. We seem lean on both legwork/visits and "closers." We need to send Alec Baldwin in to give the the staff a pep talk.

Mitch, what did you accomplish with your repeated judgment calls on Mustang recruiting? What actual information do you and the rest of the backseat drivers who say more and better base your opinions on? Do any of you have access to program breakdown of assignment, their individual itineraries, schedules, phone calls or visits etc or is all your discomfort based on the results of press releases and scouting boards which most likely don't have any background information either.

If opinion on effort is based on results then recruits leaving is most likely the result of something other than effort. That leads us back to why coaches left and why coaches might be still leaving. That may lead right back to our problem here on Ponyfans and our assistance in the manufacture of the ASU debacle and demand to fire all the coaches often for silly reasons which may have sent ripples of problems at SMU all over the web that could be used by the Pirates as a marketing tool and in doing so is destructive to our closing of recruits and the SMU football program.

Let's try using more honey to attract our recruits and less laundry.
