the new Big XII commish and SMU?

I am hopeful they get someone pro SMU/UofH. I know Neinas expressed that he had no interest in adding another Texas school in future expansion but I hope the new commish has the foresight to not rush the expansion. I think a good last year in C-USA and a couple of good years in the Big East would make us an appealing option three or four years down the road for the Big XII. Obviously, we have to continue to improve and more importantly increase addendance. I hope SO uses some of the Big East money for marketing.

Embrace the BE. I really don't believe that we want to become on the whorens beatches. I would rather have hopes for the SEC or PAC12 before joining the whorens and their little beatches.

GO PONIES!!!

totally agree / too many tx schools for the lil12 & that is what killed the ol swc / besides, we'll be all going after the same recruits from the same geographic region & that's why the BEAST is so appealing - not only from our region but from out west to the northeast & the atlantic states! what a great footprint to recruit from!!!

If we could somehow sucker ND into the conference, I really like where we sit. Yes, it would be great to rekindle rivalries with Baylor, Tech, UT in a conference setting and have old school [deleted] matches at the water cooler, but I really like the East-West coast exposure that the Big East provides. I just hope we can take the opportunity by the reins. SMU garnished enormous exposure when it was playing Florida, Michigan, Ohio State, Fordham, Army in the 1940-60s. If we could get Notre Dame/Navy every couple years and play TCU and Boise every year. That's a pretty prime schedule. Plus we get our name in SoCal and Florida markets which is key. Fight like hell to get Baylor, Tech, A&M as occasional non-conference foes and I'm pretty happy with this going into the future. LOTS of room to grow in the conference.

Believe me, I am overjoyed about the Big East, but a large part of me wants to be in the Big12. With regional foes weekly, attendance would take care of itself. Plus many more fans would travel up and down I-35 to watch away games than will be able to get flights to the coasts every other weekend.

I am proud of where we are going and am focused on it. but I still wish we could fight with our geographical neighbors.

u may want to get into the lil12 but they DON'T WANT US so it's time to move on -

we got a great thing going here with bigger & better opportunities!

Completely agree. While I like regional games as much as anyone, I personally prefer a future that is not tied to the temper tantrums and ego trips of Deloss Dodds at any given time. I think we have much better control over our own fate in the BEAST than we ever would have in the Bevo 12(ish).

Call me biased, but this just seems much more interesting:

Football:
Cincinnati
UConn
Louisville
Rutgers
South Florida
Central Florida
SMU
San Diego State
Boise State
Houston

Basketball:
UCF, Houston and SMU join DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Notre Dame, Providence, St. John’s, Seton Hall and Villanova in all other sports..

I'm with redpony on this one. We are in the right conference for our school with the BE. I hope it continues to be a good conference and we have a long lasting relationship with them. However, if not, I would much rather go to the SEC or PAC10-12 then the little12-10(or whatever they are). BE is a perfect fit (except for basketball and I think that too will improve). And, we can still play TCU, Baylor, UT or whoever as non-conference games (and beat some old friends).

Road trips will be much better, Big 12 schools are located in dismal hick towns (sans Austin).

I think Turner/SMU envisions itself as a national private university and not a Texas private university. I think the BE allows us to play both cards. We get to recruit from and fund-raise in major East West coast markets but we can always put a Texas emblem on our field/court, show BBQ on the Blvd or run our Shetland pony across the field if we want to proclaim "we're from Texas". TCU gets a tremendous bump sports-wise and fan-wise and probably money-wise but I'm not sure it really adds to their national profile or stature.

We'll make more money in the BE than in the Big XII, book it. In the Big XII everyone has to give a little taste to UT or they'll walk. In the end all the teams will end up being UT's girlfriend.
