Former Va. Tech wide out and recent transfer Austin Fuller met with June Jones this week to discuss his future with SMU football. The coaches decided Austin will be playing strong safety next year for the Mustangs. The transition will be a good fit for Austin.

Interesting switch. The safety spot is definitely wide open.

Apparently he was a two-time all-state WR in high school. 3 star with offers from va tech and maryland. Played 10 games in 2010 for the hokies and only registered 1 catch. Seems to have good size 6'2, 220.

How many years of eligibility does he have?

2 more. Redshirted in 08, played 09 and 10.

Austin has one more year of eligibility. Beast athlete, just needs playing time to prove it. He played mostly special teams and the 4th wr at Va. Tech when they ran the spread (which they never did).

He sounds like he is a really good athlete. I think he will excel in his new position.

It's tough to make the transition to a new position with only one year of eligibility left. I sure hope he has played D before. He sounds like a great athlete but you need to have a mean streak to play S. Let's hope he uses the spring practice well to transition smoothly.

I take he was out of school for a year and that counts as the year he has to sit out, or has he been at SMU since last year?

could be tough transition - would rather see him at WR if he can fly.

When you transfer you don't only have to sit out one year, you also burn a year of your eligibility if I'm not mistaken (unless you go FCS)

Players only have a 5 year window to play in. Had to sit out last season because he switched from d1 to d1.

I feel like there is a good chance that Strikeking311 is someone close to Fuller so just listen to him, I am sure he knows what he is talking about.

So sitting out last year, per NCAA rules, allows him to play in 2012 right ? Would have only one year to play here right ?
