O-Line Next Season

Aside from JJ making his usual preposterous claims and comparisons about individuals in this class, the other thing that stuck out to me was his comment that some of the true freshman are going to compete for spots on the O-Line. Who are the frontrunners for starting positions there?

I know Collins has some experience playing both Guard and Tackle, and assume he is a frontrunner for the Right Tackle position. Gotschalk has received some playing time as well but not sure where he's projected to play...probably Left Tackle?

LT - Gotschalk
LG - Weeks? Free? Duhe?
C - Hughs?
RG - Weeks? Free? Duhe?
RT - Collins

Do Lasaeki or Reich figure in next year? Not sure if this has been discussed here recently, but figured some people have attended some practices and may have some more insight.

McJ at C if he gets a medical redshirt.

Maybe Myers as a true freshman.

Lasecki probably.

I think McJunkin gets the medical hardship year. Free, Duhe, Emshoff, Miller and others fight for the remaining 2 spots.

RT Taylor Reich/Kris Weeks
RG Jordan Free/ Christian Miller
C Blake McJunkin/Taylor Laski
LG Bryan Collins/Ahston Duhe
LT Ben Gottschalk/Josh Emshoff

This was my best guess at an O-Line that doesn't include any true freshmen (and with June, there is no doubt that they will get a chance to play) that I posted a few weeks back. It's pretty much in agreement with consensus I think.

The good thing about that is that I don't see a name twice anywhere on that two deep. I distincintly remember seeing that happen before.

That is the ONE position where I would really like for us to be able to redshirt all incoming freshman, but with depth issues I think it will be impossible.

Assuming we redshirt all incoming freshmen OL, including Myers ...

RT Taylor Reich 6-7, 300/ Kris Weeks 6-5, 285
RG Jordan Free 6-2, 302/ Christian Miller 6-4, 265
C Blake McJunkin 6-2, 300/ Taylor Lasecki 6-3, 296
LG Bryan Collins 6-3, 313/ Ahston Duhe 6-2, 315
LT Ben Gottschalk 6-5, 275/ Josh Emshoff, 6-4, 280

That seems about right. Having McJunkin is going to be huge for experience/leadership for sure. Collins and Gottschalk seem solid and at least Reich has the size (does he have the skills?). Lasecki is a solid backup and if Myers doesn't get redshirted he'll probably be a solid back up as well. Would like to see 3 deep but this is by far the most depth in a while ... hope these guys are eating lots of steaks and eggs and banging it out in the weight room right now. ;-)

I thought Weeks was listed somewhere around 320 when he signed- did he shed a lot of weight or something?

I pulled those numbers from the official roster. I'm sure they are not totally accurate.

levingston left the team, so he's not going to be here next year.

I have heard good things about Reich, but obviously the entire right side is a concern and depth becomes an issue as well... Can't wait to check them out in the spring!
