“I tell our guys,” Meyer said, “you really have no value to a program if you can’t recruit.”

We'll finally be able to take the next step when we have a coach that believes that.

Or: "You really have no value to a program if you can't find the booster with the most money"

Recruiting is a year-round thing nowadays. Coaches taking month-long vacations to the islands while our competitors are out pounding the pavement is why our last class was ranked in the 80's nationally despite us going to our third straight bowl game. Let June and the rest of the AARP gang finish out this year (maybe 2013 but I doubt it) and let them get on a plane back to Hawaii and STAY THERE. We will then get a coaching staff that understands the world of today and the world of elite recruiting to take this thing to the next level. As I've said repeatedly, the SMU job is now a million times more attractive today than five or six years ago. We will have plenty of quality coaches from which to pick.

Meyer's staff must have taken the message to heart since they landed a couple big names at the last minute to their class. I did not follow the story too closely but from what I understand the Wisconsin coach was not happy and cried foul.

You are correct about the Wisconsin coach, in fact I believe the Wisconsin AD filed a formal complaint with the Big 10 officials. Don't know what good it will do

The Ohio St president responded by telling the Wisconsin coach to "get a life"...no joke.
