Victor Jones was supposed to be on the field this spring with his teammates, getting ready for his senior season in 2012. But a back injury that ended his 2011 season in Tulsa turned out to be the end of his playing career, as well. Jones is now volunteering as a coach at SMU's spring workouts, and visited with PonyFans.com to discuss his interest in coaching, and how he is fitting in to his new role.

didnt realize Byron Brown was done too. It sounded like he was going to be awesome from initial reports then I never heard of him again

Back injuries suck. I have had disc issues in my back for years, and it can be awful. I'm sure Vic misses playing, but he's right to put his overall health and future ahead of another year of college ball. Good luck!

why was Victor's injury so hush-hush last year? i recall that after he got hurt and shut down for the season, it was a no-no for anyone to ask for specifics on him. it was referred to as a season-ending injury, but nothing more was ever said.

i don't even remember hearing it was career-ending until now.

Maybe they didn't talk more about it last year because they didn't know the severity at the time? I don't know. Justing guessing.
