BEAU BARNES: Better safe than sorry

Defensive end Beau Barnes would like to be on the field with his teammates this spring, competing for a bigger role in the Mustangs' defensive ends rotation. Instead, he is spending his mornings in the weight room and training room. Barnes visited with PonyFans.com to discuss why he is sitting out of spring drills and his expectations for the 2012 season.

Interesting that Christian Holloway isn't mentioned as competing for a starting DE spot. We haven't seen any kind of reviews on how he's looking so far.

We need Barnes healthy and strong. We have seen a few DEs get worked on in the offseason, but overall, we have been pretty lucky in recent years with the health of our linemen on both sides of the ball. Can't have too many big, strong linemen on either line.
